lol@name, thats really a laugh.

from the manufacturers website:
"From the outside things look fairly conventional, but the really innovative features are inside. Inputs are analogue, on XLR and RCA, but the analogue signal goes straight into Burr-Brown digital converters. This allows he signal to be proceeded digitally before it's fed to PWM Class-D digital amps."

different to most speaker designs so far, so interesting from a technical side at least. but why the fuck would you even HAVE analogue inputs if you perform an a/d conversion inside each speaker wouldn´t it be logic to have digital inputs right there?!

exactly, and who would want an extra stage of cheap conversion with DSP processing to fuck up your sound?

the only exciting thing about them is the class d amps, if they have been well implemented.

i think they look very similar to adam's too, which i never really liked the look of.

i'll be sticking with my ATCs!           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

it mean all monitors with class D amp get a/d convertion?

klippel i m not sure it s very different design , on many monitors i think the eqs behind are digital it s probably similar implementation.

i never thought about the eq´s on monitors so far acutally but i guess most of them are analogue? never heard about a/d conversion and dsp processing in a monitor so far.
thank god my geithain rl904 have no eq control whatsoever and are strictly analogue ;-)

i have an all class d amp in my audiophile living room stereo setup. it is a follow up to a already quite decent tube amp before and performs absolutely stunning and even smoother than the tube. so if its done right it can be VERY good sounding.

about the eq analog would cost way more for beeing transparent with high quality components that why i doubt it...they would tell it in their sell speach i guess too ... could be wrong but if the signal need to be converted for class D amps it make sense to use digital eq it s better than cheap analog in the monitoring path and for reducing the price.

their is also a few monitors from Kh and i think genelec and probably more brands that have digital input. about dsp genelec and dynaudio have some monitors that will even try to correct the room response

yeah, digital monitors with built in conversion have been around for a long time.

there's a really great podcast interview with Bruno Putzeys (Hypex Electronics, Grimm Audio) about class-d amps here:

klippel, i am jealous of your geithains! how do they sound? they seem to be about the same price as my ATCs, so i would love to do a shoot out one day!           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

hey mate, i love the geithains, they do not sound "sexy" or modern if you know what i mean. they are very natural and you can spot everything in the stereo field nicely. they suffer from my tiny room these days and wait for the new studio in hopefully two months when my house is ready

you are welcome to a shoot out in the new house, i am in germany near frankfurt ;-)

isnt that what monitors should sound like? natural, transparent, without adding anything? i dont get all these new monitors with 'own sound'. that's completely wrong!

thanks dude. i'd say exactly the same thing about my ATCs, no sound at all, like a transparent window. so transparent in fact, that bad mixes sound bad, which is exactly why i bought them! well recorded material sounds incredibly good.

yeah, i ummed and ahhed about adams and genelecs and focals etc., but at the end of the day things like ATC and Geithain are in a completely different league, so when i got a great offer on a pair i couldn't pass them up!

let me know if you are ever in milan too!           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

Well, I am stuck with Adam and I like it every bit. The A7X sound almost too metallic but they translate so darn well on everything else, especially when I use them in conjunction with my 12 inch sub

It would be interesting to give Eve a try though...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

I have heard that some models of adam's are not magnetically shielded. I wonder if some Eve monitors have the same issue?

Unless you are still using a mid nineties CRT monitor i do not see the need for magnetic shielding in the first place.

It is a bit of a misnomer to refer to class-D as being digital in nature. It is in every sense an analog topology, but the design is radically different from say a class A topology.

It would look as though this design has it´s bass reflex port oriented backwards which would make it a challenge when positioning it against a wall.
I will stay on my Dunlavy´s using my A7´s as tiny speaker reference (nothing quite beats a sealed enclosure when it comes to tight, controlled bass IMO)           Mastering available here:
