Artist: Etnoscope
Title: "Drums from the dawn of time"
Label: Digital Structures

1. Dawn of Time
2. Sunrise
3. King Size Rizzla
4. Megastamp
5. Sneaky Drums
6. Metalixir
7. Qula
8. Silent Agreement
9. Ki Lan
10. Harmony

Drums from the dawn of time starts with a 3+ minute intro track with tribal drums and didgerido sounds. It gives you a taste of what you can expect: an album filled with great percussive work and excellent tribal atmosphere.
Sunrise, like the name tells you, its a perfect track for the morning, with great feeling, powerfull druming and a beautifull female voice. One of my favs!!
King Size Rizzla (funny name, to roll a fat one ) heats thing up a bit. A more powerfull track with nice fx here and there and tribal chanting to add some spice to it.
Megastamp should be renamed Megastomp, since this is hard stomping track, delivering you great druming work but not very much besides that. Would work well on a dancefloor.
Sneaky Drums is my favorite here. The bpm slows down a bit, and it has a great warm feeling, groovy as hell, perfect tribal atmosphere and a synth layer that puts a huge smile on your face.
Things get on a hard stomping mood again with Metalixir. But this track is not so sparse as Megastamp, it has some nice sounds and again tribal chantings added smootlhy to our earing pleasure. Then we have Qula, that somewhat reminds me of a Tegma track. Along with the ever present tribal drums, the mystical voices in the begining and the dark atmosphere could put this one easily in the Encoded/Decoded album, and nobody would notice the difference. Then things cool down with Silent Agreement. A slower, mellower, kinda end of party track. Perfect for home listening. Then when you where ready for that soft finnish, Ki Lan puts you in a party mood again. It is a crazy breakbeat track with great synth sounds, to put that huge smile again on you face. Finnaly (?) we have Harmony a more ambient/chill track but still with a trancey atmosphere. If you let the cd roll a little while longer then you get a small (2:36) hidden track. This one is intended to make you laugh, as it seems right out a country/folk cd. Then some cool beats join the acustic guitar to make a perfect ending to an almost perfect album.

Well, a great surprise for me, who only had paid attention to Etnoscope in the Footprints compil, with the track Flosiplaskan. For me the best release from DS this year. And let me just say that I have bought Vibrasphere's, Ticon's and Bigwigs's albums, which I think are all superb (Bigwigs in a kind of differerent way as you probably know ).

this cd is really really beautiful !!!
tribal, amospheric , minimal , progressive and even psychedelic
we can hear some housy influences (track 3)
i love the way they use the atmosphere and the voices ... very emotionnal ! (track2, 7,8)
great and beautiful ambient tracks (tracks 1 & 10)
even a powerfull psychedelic track with fat kick bass et dark atmosphere (track 6)
or a more classical smooth progressive track (5)

I just got this gem in the mail yesterday and I haven't stopped listening to it yet.

What sets this album apart are the most amazing female vocals (performed by three difference singers nonetheless) I have ever heard on a trance CD and superb percussion work. I haven't
heard Etnoscope play live, but they definitely have great material for it.

My early favorite is the 10:15 minute-long Qula which slows down in the middle to give way to some divine vocals and then builds up again. I haven't heard vocals used so well in trance before.

While I can't say like Jingabé that this is the best DS CD of the year, I have them all too, it's definitely not any less exciting than Vibrasphere's and Ticon's new albums and that in itself should say enough. Check this CD out and please, please buy it!

Overall, this has been a great year for Scandinavian trance with Iboga and DS outdoing each other with every successive release, and this album fits right in that pattern. And there's still a lot of music to be released, wow!

Peace!

Oh my... summer here we come (at least in Australia hehe)... from the lovely intro to the last sound we are taken on probably the nicest journey D.S label has priveded to day... Intricate drum patterns, tribal rhytmns, didgeridooes, female vocals (not overdone or used in a bad way at all)... thumping bass kicks... melodies to make you fly to the rising sun... this is a cd made for the sunrise... these lads take you on a journey to the very beginning of trance, when it was about dancing to the drums and experiencing a spritual awakening... this cd is a must for anybody wanting to experience real trance... I've waited for this album for a long time and it was well worth it... emotions only fel at the OBE are flooding back with this... go get it now... you'll not regret the money spent

"drums from the dawn of time" shows the different aspects of psychedelia, it sounds fresh like a good wine after ripeing. its very e-motional (carolas voices....) and trippy (nice modulation work), very etno and intentional, yet off the earth.

fav's: 010, 007, 001 and the beautiful "Sunrise".

realy realy realy good album. Very special in direction and atmosphere. it mixes a bit of everything - house, techno, tribal, vocals etc and amkers a great tribaa-technoish-opsychedelic atmosphere. great combinations of vocals, erreatic drums and tech beats. when it all comes together its beatifull.
