We had something similar happen up in Toronto... some of us had tried to organize a sudden party with generator and a system right downtown, but it didn't work out as planned (inability to contact crew members via phone was the main factor)... luckily there were other systems set up and a lot of fun to be had just walking around (even though downtown was knee-deep in cops, fire fighters, ambulances, emergency task forces, etc!)... caught a few warming beers at some candle-lit bars, met people on the street, gazed at the amazing stars... it was a blast!
A few region-wide black-outs every summer would keep me happy

basilik, it seems that not since the 18th century have stars been seen at night in NYC... i bet its true for 20th century Toronto as well.... great part of the night.
