Basilisk had said:
Quote:

What was I to do, fudge it and start calling it ... "dark prog" like some people? (It) fails to account for the fact that "dark" is not the defining characteristic of the style.

Then Wizdumb wrote:
Quote:
... I own and run Cosmic Conspiracy Records... the dark progressive genre...

Why don't you call dumb fuck's bluff and start calling it dumb prog

Almost as funny as some cunt Brazil tard calling Justin Chaos out and melting into nothingness with it's complete wank blue name.

Oh, the "zenonesque" name debate again..... I do understand that its an imperfect name (as clearly does Basilisk) but as has been pointed out here and elsewhere "dark prog" "minimal psy" etc also have their issues in covering such a creative niche. I too would love to see a better, all-covering-yet-still-specific-enough-to-be-worthwhile term but it obviously hasn't been forthcoming to date. Maybe one day this issue will be solved, though I suspect that at the point that everyone can agree that one "category" fits this entire sub-genre it will be a clear sign that a lot of the music has lost its uniqueness and originality.... so for me, long may the debate continue.

More to the point (since this debate hardly seems central to the point of the thread and has already taken place on many more relevant threads):

Read the "Beginners Guide" last night and found it really interesting, crystallized a few things I've been thinking and hearing recently and filled in a few bits of background. Great job!

A number of artists who sell their work through the traditional methods seem to be feeling that they'd end up just as well off through donation based release and relying on bookings (as they generally already have to).

The internet has been a complete game changer when it comes to the music business both on large commercial scale and underground scenes. It seems to me there is no solution but to evolve with it and make the best use of the networking and promo tools it offers, resisting and trying to keep doing things as they were done in pre-net days just won't work at all.

I also get to thinking how this is a microcosm of the bigger picture. The internet is also proving itself a complete game changer in the larger worlds of media, information exchange, the formation of social structures, politics and even economy and currency. And similarly people who want to keep doing things the "old way" are having to struggle more and more to do so, while people utilizing the networking and spread-of-information capacities of the "new way" are finding it easier and easier to go about things.

So I'm well excited to see the development of Ektoplazm on two levels, one due to the music, but also since I think it's evolution follows similar patterns to those we are seeing (and will come to see over the near future) in the world at large.

So fair play Basilisk!            www.soundcloud.com/sigilpsy www.mixcloud.com/sigilpsy

It seems Ektoplazm reached its funding goal, big congrats. Looking forward for the new site           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."
