Now that we're on the topic, I've always wanted to get more into DnB, but I always seem to get lost in the myriad of names out there. So if you would be so kind, could you jot down a quick list of must-listens?

it is confusing and there a soooooo many tracks out there.
My basic suggestion to anyone of my friends who wants to check out the genres is to buy this compilation:
it's well mixed, it has most of the anthems over time (a bit prejudice to Goldie's Metalheadz label but still rather generous).
It has a bit of every major sub genre from liquid funk to techstep to minimal to upfront jungle... from this you will easily find what you like and just use discogs heaps!
I'd also suggest looking into Renegade Hardware records, this two cd mix is great value:
