hello here some review for the album:

Droidlock - High Phonics For A Replicant -/ Kagdila (USA)

Damien Vergnaud, the man behind Droidlock and one half of Snug As A Bug, comes up with his first album as the latest instalment in a career which has seen, since 1997, releases on labels such as Dragonfly, ZMA, Phonokol and Hadshot. And the flavour of this is firmly scientific, psyborg-techno, probably laid down by men in white coats and plastic chemical goggles on. Starting with a dubby intro (Then I Begin), it segues into the percussive and mechanical Syncussion. From there things get deep down ‘n’ dirty with Origine X, featuring Paps. It’s a low-set, sci-fi friendly tune with a nice groove and plenty of bubbling sub acting as an undertow anchor. Life Form is a more conventional number, gathering and increasing energy with every bar, bringing in soaring twisted melodies and mashing them all together to make an analogue-driven, old skool-flavoured messy and intense climax. Joti Sidhu guests on Black Jack, a moody and stormy tune with evidence of Joti’s tweakery all over and Stomp, recorded with Dino Psaras, is just what its name suggests it is – a stomper, with a tight 4-4 and not a lot else. Serge Souque from Total Eclipse & The Antidote steps in on Channel 21, a quirky casserole of both TE and Antidote sounds put through the Droidlock blender, stifling the melodies and movements in favour of firmly futuristic scifi stabs. Finishing off with the nicely ironic and bubbling Acid Jaoe, a take on old acid house that blends detroit influences with, as you may expect by now, a mechanical and robotic feel, there’s something lacking about this album. Individually, there’s nothing wrong with the tunes, but without any real cohesive structure this sounds a bit directionless, and whether it leaves any lasting impression is open to debate.

enjoy

every track interesting in a different way. . .in my opinion a good album to listen to in a darkroom with five friends and a couple of not the best tunes for a big dancefloor but very mind bending percussion and groove. it lacks cohesive structure as a full album but if your into listening to the ultimate battle of man vs the machines. a sci-fi haven of robotic calls and alien encounters. a maddening and enlightening experience. take the dive!           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

I agree with Asi concerning Droidlock’s work, i’d simply say it’s not my cup of tea at all, this production is fully connected with hardtek or tech-trance sphere but has nothing to do with psytrance for me. The guy should get more support evolving in his more natural & close music category according to me.

This album is a classic. Too much for you little softies growing up on fluffy full on I'm sure.
You softies may like his latest album though. His sound has evolved and to me is very much in the Goa style. Mature, not cheesy.
Also listen to his music on the Chinese film Baober in Love.

Droidlock - "High Phonic For a Replicant" [Kagdila]

1. "Intro"
Yes I'm sitting comfortably, thank you.
Well good, let's go then!
Well? Come on then!

2. "Syncussion"
Nice deep tribal sounding intro with a decent wash over the top. Ooh I'm liking this! I heard good things about this album when it was released. I'm beginning to regret not buying it at the time! Very technoid feeling, just chugs along. The percussion is clean as & changes at just the right times, in other words, right before it starts to get boring!

3. "Origine X" (featuring Paps)
Funny sample to start. This one is taking me back to the good old days of psychedelic minimal! Tasty production levels & nice progression throughout the track. Nice samples! Top notch percussion. Very suggestive atmospheric synth work makes the track really breath. A good one for early on in the night perhaps, as it never really 'kicks', though it may in the right headspace.

4. "Life Form" (featuring St Pr)
Well so far this album is going a long way in making me move his latest from my wishlist to my shopping cart just out of curiosity! Excellent use of space in this track... the suspense is killing me! Maybe a little lo-fi for 2005, but considering this was released in 2002, I'll let it slide.. hehehe. Nicely unsettling melodies towards the end make for a fitting finale.

5. "Black Jack" (featuring Joti Sidhu)
Wooo! Pretty crankin bassline on this one. Feels like we're really building to something here. The percussion is crunchy & tight, the synthwork is understated, the production is tidy. In other words, everything's working just fine! Wow! 2 basslines! At least that's kinda how it sounds, although they're operating at different frequencies. I like it! Great rhythm.

6. "Stomp" (featuring Dino Psaras)
Wow, very high end kick. Some nice production noises to get things going. Lots of noises, but nothing really seems to be happening, just more percussion stacking on. Oh wait a minute, we have a breakdown. Oh OK, that's quite a change! The bassline just got a groovier feel, with the occasional high note to break the monotony. More of a midline than a bassline though. Nice production but not my thing. No defined peak in the track, just lots of noises.

7. "Believe in Faith"
Some pretty great noises in this one! The bassline drives on & on but nothing really grabs me about this track. I dunno, maybe I just wasn't listening enough.

8. "Channel 21" (featuring Serge Souque)
Nice use of panning on the percussion. Bassline just sorta slides in there. Hmmm.. this one didn't really do much for me either. It sounded the most dated of all the tracks so far, especially the little melody lines.

9. "Golden Gun" (featuring DJ Pea)
Ooh this sounds funky! Nice tribal percussion, very minimal track. Some of the synthwork is certainly starting to sound a little dated, but all in all this is pretty decent groovy trance.

10. "Acid Jade"
My favourite colour! Will it be a token chill track? Sounds like it could be! Yup, although it's pretty upbeat still, just very soft pads & percussion. The synth washes are almost housey. Some pretty great percussion in here. The whole effect is quite hard to pigeonhole.. I like it!

On the whole, nice album. I'm a bit ashamed to not have bought it 3 years ago. Um.. yeah... I think I was broke then! Will have to make up for it by dropping something from the first half of the album (definitely the better half in my books) in a set soon, as some of it's still playable, which is a rarity in this genre! 8/10           new Hadal Drop album on the way

if you don't have the last one get in touch
