Hello goa lovers!

I am a Canadian transplant psytrance DJ now living in Seattle, and I would like to get some opinions on a future project that I might be a part of.

Basically my question is this: is there any demand for a downloading site (such as iTunes), for downloading psytrance/goa?

Inotherwords, if you could go to a site that had all the latest releases of psytrance, would you shell out about 70 cents a track to buy music?

We already have in place a company where you can download STRICTLY electronica music (everything from breaks, to trance, to IDM, to drum n' bass, etc.). And we are talking to a big psytrance label to jump on board with us.

I realize a huge part of the 604 community already downloads alot of music, and when we can, we support the artists. I mean, let's face it, the psytrance world isn't exactly a money-maker.

For every track that you would purchase, half of the profit would go to the record label...so, although you're not buying the artists' album, you WILL be supporting the artist/label in some way, and this is a chance to just choose what you want, instead of downloading a whole bunch of stuff that you don't like, that's not very good quality, and the artist never sees a dime. It is so hard to find singles anymore, on vinyl or otherwise. Wouldn't it be better if you could just find the tracks you want, that are CD quality?

I would just like people's opinions on this. For people that have used iTunes and can't find what they want in electronica, will find more at this new site. They are just wondering if there is a market for this for psytrance, and I need some feedback.

If this all goes through, I will be releasing the name of the company at a later date.

Thank you so much,

Lara

I'm pretty sure I'd make use of it. I love psy/goa, but also there are not that many CDs in which I /love/ every song, and would be nice to be able to download just the tracks I like, and support the artist/lable at the same time.

I actually have an idea for your website -- one that could be very profitable.

You could charge people, say, $10 for an unreleased "killa rare" track.

First, if it is a very rare and killa track, some people might be willing to pay a lot of money for it. second, I dont think that anybody will want to share a track that he paid $10 for (unless it is with somebody else that ALSO paid $10 for another unr). Third, the artists gets more money.

Think about it...

70 cents is a very very good deal...as long as the payment options are flexible, i'm sure ppl would use it...

iTunes have already shown 50 million+ downloads so far

I think the mp3 shop thing will really come into focus once some really old and rare releases come online for sale...also I hope the bitrates will be higher than 192           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

if the mp3s are legit, reasonably priced, high quality (almost as good as CD quality) - I'll be there.
make sure you bring a wide variety and not just the top of the pops

MP3 will be replaced soon enough with higher quality formats.
for the time beeing....its nice to see all the people here that would go for it BUT as long as u are offering/selling the same kind of quality and format as the things people can DL on ptp's(320 bit etc.) for free...the MASS of down loaders will NOT pay...
u must offer somthing that is better in some way and unfortunately NOT STEALING/SUPPORTING does not really sell....
cheers.

p.s IMO even if u had a type of file with AMAZING quality most people that are not DJ's or sound freaks wont go(pay) for it...192 bit is good enough.

MP3 doesn't cut it for me regardless of the bit rate. Pay-per-download would be okay I guess but then I want an ISO image of the actual CD...Like many I invested quite a bit in audio equipment so playing a lossy compressed format does not support my view on audio quality. The way should be forward not backward...
If a CD-image would amount to more than 10$/€ I prefer to get the silver frisbee version with sleeve and stuff for a few dough more. Besides the idea of building a collection of CDR doesn't really appeal to me somehow. Cannot imagening cherishing my own amateuristic pressings the same as my goa old skool collection...

Dunno...maybe its just me...

I'd happily pay up to $2.50 for CD quality (.wav) downloads of single tracks.

panzer has a point. if you could put .wavs or .apes in the online store then buying online for 70 cents a track is a very good option which i will go for. but mp3s, well, maybe, if it's really high bitrate.           Super-teen extraordinaire Freakazoid! Freakazoid!
