Downhill - Silent City (Gravity Plus Records).

First thing I would like to say in this review, is that
I find it hard to describe this album properly. The music will do it better for me.
You will just have to hear it for yourselves. But it does sound like some
sort of soundtrack to a dark cyberpunk thriller, like a camera is flying over huge, dirty,
foggy silent city, over industrial zones, towers,
flying into sewers and empty buildings... It's the music of giant abandoned spaceships...
This is the picture that comes into my head when listening to it. Something dark and atmospheric.

The first track on the album (Three Years Drought)sounds like some sort of cyberdub.
Serious bassline, which creates some kind of suspence, dubby, piano like sounds,
and the background pads and samples are just fantastic. And that mysterious feel it has, it's just excellent.

A Pefect Man, with the same sample in it, is a down-tempo-electro-breaks piece,
with scratches and this new distorted sounds of XDream, that can be heard on Gplus site and of course in
"We are the first" track, that is causing havoc during all their live acts. Massive is the word.

The tacks like Ed lab, can be easily signed to Ninja Tune and the likes, with its chello bassline,
broken rhythm, weird melody, and lots of scratches. An example of diversity on this cd.

Ground Effects returns to dark downtempo line, another soundtrack like pice of music,
very atmospheric and... trippy. It's like you fall into some kind of abyss beacuse
of that backgrounds they create.

The Final Miles continues but in a slower way, electronic buzzing synth line,
vocoded voice samples, violins delayed and reverberated, and that Delta like chorus voices,
they make me feel tiny, standing among an enormous empty building.

The name of the next track (Silent City) speaks for itself.
Clapping electroish rythm line, another track that could easily be used as a
soundtrack to some dark movies.

33 degrees becomes a little faster and it is a wonderfull electro track, with its claps,
huge distorted melody, and robotic sounds here and there. Life of abandoned machines, no shit : )

Weaken Memories will surely be a present to the Delta style fans, because it somehow reminds
the stuff they make. it's fastest track on the album, if I can say so.
Jumpy basslines, techy looped percussion, and yes, that cinema feel, they create by
their massive sounds is also here. Brilliant.

Then there is a remix to track 2 which make it sound more electroish and an ambient (soundtrack) version of silent city.
Sounds like a soundtrack indeed because of the orchestral feel it has. Very industrial.

Conclusion: Excellent. Another quality mark from Elmshorn team. A development of their sound that pretty much shows
what the guys are into for the moment. An album which can be adressed to wide crowds
of people, not only to the ones that know Xdream, Delta and so on. A cyber downtempo-electro thriller.
Dark and massive.

Favorites? None so far, or in other words all at once.
I prefer listening to the whole album, because it creates a wider picture.

P.S. The album will soon be released. Online promos are available on www.gplusrecords.com

“I’m driving downhill at night,
I stop my car.
Get In…
I’ll drive you home”

Deep and extremely hypnotic trip hop mixed with apocalyptic dub, dipped in acidic electro with its extra ordinary grooves ,mystic breaks and cinematic atmospheres…
Or whatever the press release says, this album hits right into the spine of any electronic music lover with or without experience (will be still fresh experiences for them both)
This album is essential classic already for me and many like me.
Its simply one of the best down-tempo albums I heard since ever, the super production of The Delta trio, catching me with my pants down and I liked it!
I believe I always imagined to myself this music but now I also could listen to it, and this was already over my expectations, I had the chance to hear the tracks separately here and there ,but when I had this luck to hold one of those Japanese copies and to dig into it while listening this album for hundred times, I simply became a downhill sonic junkie.
The melodies are so touching here, that somehow its created in my head a kind of wide movie screen with many windows or in other words “create a movie for the music” mind-gameJ
I will not continue as it can look a bit psychotic… I love this CD so much!!!
This album is a MUST for ALL lovers of psychedelic music and all other kinds of music at all!!!

ATTENTION:
THIS ALBUM IS A GRAVITY PLUS PRODUCT ,EXPECT AN EXTRA GRAVITY
WHILE LISTENING EXPERIENCE!

this album is a must for all Delta fans out there and for people who dig good music in general , the production quality of this album is just as good as the music itself every track is a killer, so far i consider this album to be the best downtempo album that i have ever heard!

Now we wait for the Der Interpret album...

I own it. excellent album, its hard to compare both albums really they are very different in style

its just Silent City is the type of listening music that is more closer to my soul it explores all kinds of music from downtempo to trip hop, a little of electro.. Its dark, intense, futuristic, emotional and highly original sounding music
basically this is my cup of tea, at the moment no other trance porducer statisfys me more musically then Markus, Yan, Arne & Wayan for me they produce the best trance/techno/electro and now downtempo!!!
