this topic is not about ocelot, psytracked or doughcherry- u all have got enough air time now back to the topic!!! i agree with psytracked that our egos are one of the main reasons that got this earth into a mess but pls sort ur mess outside .
yes as doughcherry wanted he got attention to this thread and has rightly done so to bring attention to the topic which is important. STOP GIVING HIM ATTENTION
the topic is about the earth and protecting it.
@ocelot- doughcherry is one of the many who feels the way they do and i dont think you should get all hassled with his attitude even though it sucks big time. but like psytracked said, take it as a challenge to maybe help him understand why the situation re. global warming etc is so serious.
there is a difference between attitude and behavior. changing behavior usually takes more than just information. we have to take that info and some how make it our own i.e. how is it profitable for me.
its the same way how many ppl know that smoking is bad for them but continue to smoke.
more important than that is to do something about it.
we all talk and talk and talk but are we actually doing something whether small or big.
the general attitude in my opinion i feel is that "what can i do?"or whatever i do wont change a thing", so let me leave it to the big dogs i,e. govt. to do something about it.
yes ofcourse if we all belive that we can make a change its half the battle won ( collective conciousness) but this is not the answer. we cant just sit an say we care and then not do anything about it.
we all do the same thing - think committed( environ friendly, green, fair etc) but act in a way that direcly contradicts our own principles. did u know that 11% of human-caused emissions of greenhouses is caused by the meat industry- not telling u all to become vegans but just proving a point.
the topics of being environ friendly and environ conscious are hot right now but we still drive our cars to work and throw our cans and bottles in the trash.
so here are a few steps to help us all get started towards a greener life
**************FROM EGO TO ECO**************
1) UPDATE- you can buy low energy lamps anywhere. they last much longer and are no more $$ than regular ones
2) TURN IT OFF- lights in empty rooms, computers when your not using them, televisions blaring into the void....just press a button and ur helping
3) FULL LOADS- dont run a laundry or dishes until the machine is full
4) BRUSH DRY- do you really have to run the water while u brush your teeth?
5) ENCORE- recycle recycle, recycle!!
were all lacking a bit of motivation and hopefully this thread will help alot of us to see that u cn do simple things and help slowly and steadly.
were not asking to stop using ur cars and eating ur meats but you need to exist and consume and live with an awareness of the needs of the environment, animals and OTHER PEOPLE!

Well, actually they are but also they last 4/5 times more than the regular ones...at least whre i live!!!!
Still all good advises and easy to accomplish...and if the majoraty of the western societies would act this way, the results would be visible!!!!

every natural resource is made to be used & should be used, but wisely. There's a diffrence between USE & ABUSE.
It's a fine line. We need to understand this & STOP abusing the resources.

what i want to keep out of sight is the fighting and keep in sight and in mind the topic on hand...thank u.
yes they do contain a small amount of mercury but it is less than normal bulbs.
i googled disposal of bulbs and got a ton of info

LED lights are another way to go but require a huge initial investment but i think as time goes by they will be the way of the future and become cheaper.
i think every country needs to do their bit whether first world or 2rd world..

I am a Vegan.....I don't own a car or use public transport........I cycle everywhere........I don't use carrier bags.......I try and buy my food from places where they don't have lots of packaging.....etc...etc.
But I have to be honest........what you have mentioned is old news (here in the UK anyways)..........the current approach isn't working..........the problem persists.
Personally I think the fighting has a lot to do with the topic........out of sight out of mind is the actual problem..........What you say about people needing to get something out of it makes much sense to me......but they don't really experience the apparent affects of global warming first hand........Just what we are told...................and maybe the public are tired of this.........after all who is anyone to judge us?to tell us we are wrong and that they are right............that approach just wont work, not now not ever.

All those enlightened souls here who are preaching to counter global warming, STOP using those 4 wheeled vehicles to go your offices etc. and then come here and let us know how we can counter global warming.
I wish the government imposes some kind of heavy taxation on people who use cars more than a pre-determined maximum number of miles/kms. Or impose some kind of restriction on gasoline/petrol sales based on a person's monthly requirements.
I wish the price of gasoline shoots up to $15 a barrel...

ON TOPIC:
i live in a country where one of the most beautiful cities is being ruined by mountains of rubbish in the middle of the streets....(naples)
and the one thing you notice:
-the government (more specifically the mafia, influencing the government) is mostly responsible as it has BIG interests (power and money)
- people still protest and impede the process for cleaning (heheh....doughcherry i hope you are not one of them.....) cos they dont understand the bigger picture...!!
- rest of italy just doesnt give a f@k....just moans
