I just realised, most of my CD's are all over the floor. The dog's asleep on some.

Good job I rip them to my HD before things get messy.

To me, a CD is a thing to put a wine glass on, like a vinyl was something to roll a fat one on.

I'm all for this digital age, much less clutter, can fit my entire collection in my handbag now

Try and get it out of it's shrink wrap in 20yrs time.

It won't play

CD's are bio-degradeable

Worthless

Embrace the world of music that fits in your handbag

i have cd´s that are older than 20 years and they still play
i have an original cd of alan parson´s project - Tales Of Mystery and Imagination (Edgar Allan Poe), from 1976 and it still plays
i really like to posess physical cd´s and i also like music that fit´s in your hand bad, but i prefer the 1st option.           ...

I have all mine saved as wavs onto a portable hard drive, am buying a second one to load up as a backup... I take care of mine as in they're either in my decks, a wallet or their original cases... but I use them to play and also take to work, in the car etc.

I paid for them so I should use them... I know nobody much will want them when I'm dead, and if they do then they can have one of the back ups           --- Love In Light, Dance In Darkness ---

Times three.

- CDs are NOT biodegradable. They can be thrown into the recylcle bins to be recycled, but centers wont recycle them as it is too difficult.

- They are not biodegradable, unless you mean they are "biodegradable" the same way plutonium is.

- I have never heard a mp3 that can match the aural quality of CDs. Since quality is more important the quanity, I will continue to buy CDs and use dowloading/streaming as a way to filter out future purchases.

Yes my CDs are my gold : )

Most are scratch free & safe in my case. As for albums like Psykovsky - Debut & Ghreg on Earth - Sigilweaver i have 3 copies of each just in case i see a scratch on the masterpiece

What's the half life of a CD?

Hard to answer since CDs are composed of many different materials, so the best answer is to look at the half-life of individual materials (i.e. 76000 years for nickle), including:

• Aluminum—the most abundant metal
element in the Earth’s crust. Bauxite
ore is the main source of aluminum
and is extracted from the Earth.

• Polycarbonate—a type of plastic,
which is made from crude oil and
natural gas extracted from the Earth.

• Lacquer—made of acrylic, another
type of plastic.

• Gold—a metal
that is mined from the Earth.

• Dyes—chemicals made in a laboratory,
partially from petroleum
products that come from the Earth.

• Other materials such as water,
glass, silver, and nickel.

Only dispose of your discs when you have no other choice. Always try to share, donate, or trade your discs or drop them off at an appropriate recycling center. CDs and DVDs that are thrown away waste energy and result in lost valuable resources.           .

I live in a country where is pretty difficult to get an original copy, so I care A LOT for my CD's... of course I have backups, but I feel really good when thinking about the support given to the artist when I buy originals and keep them as a collection.
