Jus wondering if nice tracks without samples really get your attention...?
is it more difficult 2 create tracks with no vocals to provide break...?

Offcourse they do stand out, if done in the right way... 4 weeks back i heard Ghreg on Earth in Seattle... he played a 2.5 hour set - first 1.5 hours of his own material, and the latter hour of other artists such as Ocelot & Penta. Not even a SINGLE track had a sample in it not exaggerating a bit even. He was really tearing that warehouse apart and had me screaming for a long time The breaks in his own compositions were outstanding in fact and did an amazing job in mustering up some extra energy on the dancefloor... His breaks were filled with leads, pads and FX crafted and designed brilliantly..Therefore samples are not really needed for tracks to stand out in my opinion.
What samples basically do is aid and mold the story line of a track into what the artist is trying to convey through that specific track, however there are artists who let the sounds do the talking alone
Psykovsky - Indigo Child
Ghreg on Earth - The Elder Sign
C.P.C - Save Your Souls
Savajun - Paranoia Jimmy
^ are just some examples i can think off at the top of my head
PS - I am assuming you are referring specifically to vocal samples with regard to your whole post |

samples r not really necessary...but it sure brings out a grin at times....gives a sense of direction to where the story "might" be going.
Remember Teo using some brilliant samples in his set at the mahashivratri party in south india. It was around 7am in the morning..the sun was up and he was just twisting the sound into new dimensions and suddenly i hear these samples "where is the key....the key? wat key? where is the key? where is the key?"....and it just went on and on for few more minutes...everyone on the dancefloor suddenly forgot wat they were actually doing...or was supposed to do...suddenly there was a sense of adventure and responsibility put on our shoulders to find this key. The track comes to a grinding halt and the samples come out " Here is the key to the Universe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"...fuck wat a moment...we found the key!

samples are not necessary at all imo. senseless use of "funny" samples can even destroy a track for me. some wisely used ones do really benefit the track though, whereas "wisely used" means fitting the track's atmosphere and title.

its all about the hook...
if you can make a proper hook without a vocal sample, you got yourself a track that stands out aswell...

It depends on how much "bang" you can handle.
Respect!

i don't care about samples to me there are two kind of tracks: good ones and bad ones, this regardless if samples are used or not

samples if AUDIBLE do enhance the effect of the song ......but nowadays samples have lost all meaning.....of late i cant understand NONE of the samples in dark tracks....just sounds like some mummuring (is that the right spelling ?)...very incomprehensible......or if audible theyre just some Pointless voice sample ripped from some movie...the sample not even being funny ,scary , trippy nothing !
And yes a good track can stand on its own merit irrespective of contaINIng a sample or not .

it can be difficult to synchronize sample with the rest of track but its quite easy to put somewhere sample of word or two. samples are ok, they can improve the atmosphere and help you with telling the story you want people to hear. but samples used in fullon tracks are sometimes very funny and not fit well. i dont wanna talk about dark trance - really dont wanna offend anybody but i have never heard well produced dark track where everything has its place but maybe thats a point...if it is - its stupid. imo

in my case no, if i don't feel to use it it won't affect the "hardness of composing" nor will it affect the duration or way to compose...
it flows and regarding that i use samples or don't and basicly if i use them or not is sorta "flowing naturally"
sometimes i think "oh perhaps a sample might fit to find out it doesn't so i then keep it out sometimes it fits and i keep it
sometimes during the whole song there is no idea to add a sample and thus no samples are added...
so in my case it doesn't affect anything in composing flow.

Some tracks dont have samples, and its fine.. Just more molodies or
something...
I like samples, but ii think its important that you can hear what is
said and its not only some funny/joking stuff...
I like samples in all styles, and in dark style its also very good...
I like alot of 60/70s samples getting used, more of that please!!
