Why in the name of god would label put it's material on FTP?           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

in my opinion, labels shouldn't send 100's of promos, give it ony to their label dj's which gained their trust.
playing at parties the new material not so important as selling it, if it causes this problem then no promos.           Without Deviation, Progress Is Not Possible.

I dont want to say that it is entirely the labels fault, afterall they distribute the promos. But is it possible for labels to distribute the promos in 'radio edit' version instead of the 'full cd version'? Hey who cares if the radio edit version will be found on the net, its the full cd version which counts Easier said than done though, any labels tried doing that yet?

Promos are important..no doubt about that! But bear in mind the consequences, i think radio edits would be great but this requires full participation from the labels to enforce it. That means no real taste of the full length track but nicely cut into radio edit for the djs. A promo is like a preview of a movie not the entire film! Even a movie preview can get you excited (i am talking about trailers in general), why cant radio edits do that? Well ok that is an entirely different topic , movies and music, but i hope you got my point.

Furtheremore, it's easy to give out 100 promos but is it easy to get ppl to buy 100 cds? The 100 promos act like a 'multiplier effect' when it gets in the net. The buyers who bought the cd doesnt. Which do you prefer? The net or your buyers?

actually this is wrong. technically, as soon as you register yourself as an artist (with the israely copyright organisation in your case) you give them the right to manage the copyright income of all your current and future albums. this means that even when a track isn't released yet whoever wants a copy of this track, or broadcast it on radio or webradio, ows these organisations (and indirectly the artist) a fee.

Well Rik,

This is sort of correct if the artist is part of ACUM or other artist organization around the globe. At the moment I am not and so are many ( eventho probably I will ) and one of the reasons I am not is this one that u mentioned. I dont like 3d parties - this is plague number 1 if u ask me - middle men that found the easiest job around - they help 2 parties get together.

Well I might need that help in the future but not now So it is completely legal from me to give my music to anyone I want without slightest fear...           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

stop sending out promos would solve nothing, it`ll only "delay" the day when it`ll be all over the net.

My label, Truffle Records, just just finished our 2nd compilation (Our first Psy Trance release). My friend, who runs the label, takes a loss on the CD's, but does it because he loves it and he hopes eventually he will start making his money back.

I heard from friends that they knew of people who downloaded free mp3's from our first release, "Sunspots" and actually spun it.

As an artist I would rather have someone listening to the music, free or paid for.. but the other part of me knows that my friend is spending a lot of time and money on making the CD's. Paying the artists, mastering artwork, manufacturing, etc...

I have copied CD's or downloaded some free music...but I buy a lot of music too. I believe that Karma will take care of everything - so hopefully all will be balanced in the end... Go with what you feel.. buy what you can to support the artists ... go with the flow .... and ALWAYS have a good time!

I agree with das funk, i'm from Brazil and I dont have money to buy many cd's, i'm dj and i buy only when i have money and in the time i dont have fucking money because the FUCK dollar is a triple of my money than i think that it's impossible to buy cd's all months.
SOrry guy's but it's reality and in brasil i wont see dj's playing only in original cd's.
I talk in the internet with famous dj's from brasil and they assume that they play some musics in mp3.
It's reality Guy's.
Think about it!

i have a fealling that some of you just refuse to let the future and progres take its place, do you guyes think that if you complain like this the trade on music will stop?
i wouldent think so , there will alwayes be people who cannot efford to buy cds, and will alwayes look for wayes to get it , which i think its blessedin a way because maby thay wouldent have a chance to get it, (ofcorse there will alwyes be the ones who abuse it...)second this issue has been on for years i dont see the record companeis bending and lowering the rediculse prices! but what i do see is that the industry is changing acordingly, and artists who are good can , with good promotion, make a lot of monny from preforming, and the cd became a promotional tool for the next show(and vice versia) and the labels should invest in promotion and creative idias to make monny (and beleave me there are planty!!!)and sale cds!
we live in a society that keeps on changing and we have to be flaxeble inogh to accept the changes and fined selutions acordigly,
guyes consentraite on making your oan music and promoting it so you can also make mony from emi, for a trance artist today it wont be big mony but for Shlomo arzi(israeli famos singer) that thay play his songs alot it is greate , so way dont you get to work and make it happen so that we hear your music more and more on the radio , and youll get royelty(monny for the righit to play your trak) for that.... ?????????

maybe most guys and girls are pretty tired of reading about the same subject over and over again... nothing new is being said here... just the same old thread over and over again. yes it is problematic... but no this thread isn't going to change anything. people with respect for artists already buy music, people without aren't going to change their opinions after reading thread nr 457 about the subject...           www.psytracks.com :: Brand new website for sharing your psytracks with the world. yés that's true... but talking about it can create new perspectives... a lot of repeating but in a way it is always a little step closer to a solution (so tiny that we cant't see it)... but still i can't say it enough that not every body can pay 18 euro for one cd...

the problem with psytrance is that when you buy a cd it is always a guess if you are going to like it or not... with other music it is less... second that there are often two or three tracks you like...

I listen to 10 psytrance releases and make 1 of it that is very good... that one good cd will cost me 180 euro... sorry men no can do...

Sometimes when I find a realease that is good I buy it to support them and also cause I want them to make a second one...

still I'm telling ya... if internet didn't exist and there was no change to copy cd's then still there wouldn't be any more original cd's in my closet...

think about that
