@ mike - mikey baba, i can start here a realy nice promotional post about star jelly, star jelly here, star jelly there, this and that... all this bla bla bullshit, im not here for this reason.
if u realy waht an answer to your question, u are more then welcome to contact me privetly or open a new thread.

@ krelm - well... u got a "label" response and an artist response, both against.

but like u said, its too fresh for telling if it`ll work or not... in a year or so we`ll be much smarter i guess.

@ Elysium - nice words baba

even now, the ones who realy make their living out of selling music are the distributers and the shops.

like i already said million times B4, real cd prises can be reduced alot.
its just that too many egocentric and greedy ppl got involved in this... and they have to put all this big ego a side, wich ofcourse wont ever happen.

lets hope for the best

@ Elysium..

The quality issue is definitely a big one right now. I am not very familiar with .wma compression (although it is supposedly better than .mp3), but for sure it is not as good as what you hear on a vinyl or CD. It is something I will research, though....I would like to buy and DJ some of the tracks they have for sale, but I must know the quality is good before I do.

However, I do see bandwidth and sound quality issues as a technology problem that will probably be much better in a year or two. High-speed internet is always spreading, bandwidth is cheaper, and people are always developing better ways to compress files (especially since a major industry ala iTunes is growing behind it, soon expanding to PCs).

Of course as the technology gets better it creates more piracy problems, but that is a whole different topic.

Long story short, I see the quality issue as only a temporary problem that will be solved in the next years. Whether it be that you can download CD-quality tracks with hi-speed, or some super-slick compression is developed that maintains the quality.

With the second issue, concerning labels, I think it is very important that this is done in collaboration with labels. Otherwise, yossi is right...they could die out and there would be an insurmountable amount of crap to wade through online for even a single good song.

I hope online music distribution never supplants labels, CDs, and records. I am a collector, so I like the pretty physical product on my shelf (even if buying a digital copy would cost half the price). The excitement of opening up a package with new CDs is much more than clicking a mouse. I like what labels do to develop a unique sound, promote new artists, etc. Labels are more important than just to release the music.

But I do like this idea to fill in the holes in my music collection that are otherwise empty, while still giving money to the labels.

We will see if it works...maybe it will never be anything more than a convenient novelty.

about wma...

i for one will never, ever, ever, EVER buy anything in wma. its a proprietary format... does anything else play it except WMP? I'm not sure. Probably yes, but any time MS decides they could make it so that only WMP plays it... only on windows... I'm not buying a format which has a serious likelihood of being unplayable in 5 years time, or which "requires" me to upgrade my computer, or use certain software, or whatever.

the future MS envisages is based on DRM and such technologies and i want NO part of this future. I honestly expect that when the next windows comes out I will decide I do not want to use it. I will continue with XP as long as I can, I just hope by the point that becomes impossible that linux has caught up enough to run all my favourite music software (what keeps me on windows), or equal alternatives.

thats all pretty offtopic tho           http://www.dartrecordings.co.uk/

I'm curious as to what kind of marketing and promotion should be done by the labels to make buying and selling music more effective and popular. Which channels are out there other then Isratrance and (mostly boring) Internet radio stations that have been proven to be very effective? Do these established channels really help you make up your mind on the quality of a release or is it just another form of advertising?           Both teams played hard

for internet geeks like us, advertising is probably useless. We usually know what is coming out one or many months before it is released (example: isratrance promotional section).

But for the average partier/listener, picking up a copy of Mushroom Mag (for example) at a party or festival and seeing many ads for upcoming releases is probably useful. I doubt it makes up their mind on the quality, but it at least notifies them that the CD is on the way or released.

The BEST form of advertising for psytrance CDs would be if labels could somehow get the company that sells nag champa to put little flyers in the packages.
