Hi PPL i really start this topic with one simple concept and concern about how much does this digital websites selings earn based on the talent of the artists.

This websites like:

Cytopia
Beatport
Beatspace
(just naming some)

I really deeply asked my self if is the talent of producers/artists well payed in a significant %; in front of what this ppl do for wining more than 50%???

I just want to start this tpic for hearing some opinions and bringin it for some discussion why not.

open your minds.here

% are the best & fairest way imo. it ensures stability and equilibrium, and also ensures very high losses aren't being ensued by those supporting artists. it all depends on your contracts. don't sign what you don't think does justice to your talent and your art simple....

Excelent view zmandan simple but concret.

Phiber ; topic was posted there but gues wgo moved it hehehe ...right Arafela

I sincerely beleives this ppl and web enterprises alwasy win more than normal based on our talent, which is very easy and simple to view just in the max $ u can earn on this sites, i def goes too the 50/50 but they will always say this is unfair since they have all the administrative stuff , but where the hell goes our talent?           30th of August first delivery money back.

As I understand most of the sites you mentioned will take about 50%. If the track is signed via a label and not with the shop directly they usually take somthing like another 50% of whats left so in that case the artist gets about 25% of the price in the shop.

I think most shops could take a bit less than 50%, but the reality is that they cannot take too much off.
It's not that big part of that money that is actual profits. Apart from costs of setting up the site and serving the content there is also taxes and transaction fees.

So with a 50-50 deal the artist is getting a lot more than half the profit.
Of course that depends on what you view as profit. A lot of artists spend more on equipment than they get back from sales, and it will vary greatly from artist to artist how much their gear costs, how much they produce with it and how many copies they sell.

If they labels should be entitled to sharing the profit from digital sales is more questionable IMO.
Usually with CD's the deal is similar, 50% of profits to the artists. But then the label actually have to do work with printing CD's as well as put up the funds for printing and take the financial risk of paying for a lot of copies they cannot be sold.
So I really can make no sense in how they many times think they would still be entitled to the same share when the tracks is digitally distributed.

Industry-standard ratios are typically 50/50 or 60/40. Any additional middlemen between the shop and the artist will take their cut as well. If you understand business this is not simply a case of earning something for nothing; those middlemen and the shop itself are performing a service for the artist, after all. Any artist may decide to put the time and energy into forging their own path. It is fairly easy to setup a digital download shop using custom software, an open source package, or a service like Musicdock but few artists have bothered with this it seems. The one big exception is Vibrasphere--but they have the kind of name recognition 99% of psytrance artists lack.

ummmm no word about it, but usually i have seen best respect , support and backup is sended by this digital sell downloads if u are part of well known label, cause since u belong to a well known label u secure more sells to this digital track or v/a whatever is the case . so this enterprises win more, and thast really a pathethic treatment when u are not from iboga or thoose. thast not fair           30th of August first delivery money back.

i believe a fifty fifty is well enough, considering that usually the half of thewebsite is also splitted in 2 or three, and also expences like site designing and stuff like this should be covered

also digital downloads as an idea is better, for the simple reason that you are avoiding the midllemen.and clearer method.you can be fully informed about how much you trucks are selling

It is 60% of net profit for artists on www.cytopia.org

If a label is involved then its up to the deal the label has with the artist. Labels get more than 60% of net profit on Cytopia ... it differs from case to case though

I just bought the new Haltya album off iTunes. $9.99
but I would have much rather put that money right into the artists pockets. (plus tip cos it's a great album.)
wonder how much Steve Jobs made off that deal
