OMG you guys (Guy is a gal first name too) you might not believe it is Saturday and I am almost 24 hours in my residence already having come back from the festival. I know some might say the thing they don't believe is that I haven't yet wrote you WHY I am back early from the festival. Short of apologizing, for any thing at all, I must say I'm GLAD I left. Of course I paid at the door and everything. However the price was $150 instead of $140 like it said on the website. Furthermore the bus there was too small to take me so I had to get burned on the public bus. Plus the shuttle from Utica was priced at $5, which was nowhere mentioned to me beforehand, therefore bringing into play wise rules of commerce ('No hidden costs') which must not be infringed.
anyway having got burned I marvelled at the cool festival site, which was sort of Antarctic in temperature, and huge. I saw two campsites and a "main" stage with another stage down a hill.
I am such an obsessed speakerhead; I marvelled; the two towering speakers looked and sounded new or at least not pawned (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!); now in the front was a row of the most intriguingly structured speakers which let out a floopy bass trill every now and again but otherwise seemed somehow not to work?, at least while I was there. I think they had it going on in the back of the speaker but whatever was the fancy whiz design on the front it was not really thumping. I am an honest person and I wanna know if those speakers deliver.
Now I tended to observe over the course of my first and only night: a hill; trees; footlights; few people; little light pollution. Now what was doing this fine stage with the promising speakers, booming into the side of a hill, I'm sure I don't know. In any event access to the main house, or castle or whatever it was, was sort of pentagon blocked and there was this bombed building too. all in all had I stayed I would or would not have continued to marvel, not to be disrespectful, not least at the enormous number of tents and cars juxtaposed with the few people out and about.
Theorizing, however, since after all I have been finishedly involved in 'psy trance' since the Berlin Love Parade afterparty with at the Planet 1995, that is 14 years, and I have some experience in slinging things like venue agreements (vs land fraud), scene policing (vs mass murder cult), heck, I even know stuff like music licensing (counterexample: this name is 'DJ Necropsycho'), and so I am here not even to tell you that the NYS Department of Human Rights is in my report pool, and that they seem ok, kind of like the UN World Headquarters and the NYC (High?) Commission on Human Rights (www.nyc.gov, I think) in NYC are impossibly better than the Department of Wreckage, I mean Recreation, fuggedaboutit, anyway, despite these important information my point to the reader at the moment will come soon enough, now, I do mention that this selfsame point already went to: dogs; a sheep; multiple horses as well as "human" neighbors; butterflies; birds; the local 911 thereabouts; and my "new friends" who blessedly drove me to Utica, which I thank without cease. The reason that this important point, which I have not yet given out, attained to all these individuals is that these fascist meatheads at the castle estate entrance swore to me twice in a row that I could not sit at the entrance, I had to go back to the campsite!?!?!??!?!!?!?!??!?!?!!??
Hey I paid $150 to be there and I would not touch that campsite with a ten foot pole. That had lawyer.
And the Supreme Corut outlawed censorship, so the forum moderators are thus compelled to sit back, read, and enjoy.
One of the absolute chief problems was that the festival was very dangerous, whether Dan Vapid thinks so or no. one of the reasons I get on as well as I do is that unstupidly I always look about me and keep an eye out for things. Thats one of the main reasons I bolted I hope I am making myself clear. Now, for the future, in case I do go down you can remember these things: for festival safety, the exits must be secured by credited persons at all times. Likewise believe it or not the portable stalls have to be thoroughly secured at all times; it is probably overall the #1 place a criminal might be hiding in ambush and someone be exposed to assault with few passerby noticing. Finally, as many ladies are often known for caution and discretion in unfamiliar surroundings and this laudable habit ought to continue, so also the gentlemen have got to watch out for apparently the #1 place the criminals hide in order to watch people is probably, did you guess it?, the bushes, and so the gents have to be careful in case they want to take a leak they oughtn't go far into the bushes, for, they might not come back, see. that was for festival safety, now what with the bombed out building and the murderers in the bushes and Petty Crimes coming by wondering what ever had happened to the owner of the Castle Estate, see, I have now spilled my beans, see, not only did I split-O-rama, not only did my feet sing and my head ponder, not only did I admire the *vast* expanses of the *totally noncommercial* Castle Estate regarding which all the gaqillions of people I know did or did not, but more *like really honestly did not, have any sort of connection soever,* not only did I observe the KGB filtering in in clumps as I beelined for the exit yesterday morning, not only all these things, as I am writing, but also simply this: the moment something gets loopy at one of these festival doo-hickies, be it "Hell-in-an-Igloo" or no, supposedly the one thing everybody is supposed to do is actually to Secure the Exits. That way whether or not anybody has to pee, presupposes that the reigning schizophrenia is 'Are the organizers credited, or no?', or is or is not found by the KGB standing on one leg meditating on the stolen land deed supposedly everybody can get out (yet, the KGB Example does or does not need TAZ - Temporary Autonomous Zone/Constitution also, or someone on the way to the exit can mediate by dragging off the kgb; now usually the TAZ is what's supposed to keep off false badge detention, this I admit).
Of course a good thing to do was to go rouse the countryside and phone 911, as we had all got wristbands; and this I did. I hope that many other people who left early or took offsite pauses ALSO did arrange for festival safety outside the castle estate, which was named Gelstone. I do NOT like being the only person who gets saddled with this stuff. And by the way that means that if there is a fire alarm at the party u and not only I must evacuate the building. as u might see i had this once. in fact the least u can do is congregate by the font door. cuz u will be pissed off once u r roasting in the fire.
So, as I write, I'm glad I left the igloo party .. now my time is short but I conclude by hoping I have expressed myself adequately and by wondering if I should ask that my future posts by ccd to the Supreme Court, which I have mentioned already. Mass Murder Cult Warning -- peace ....

the festival took place at the gelston castle estates in Mohawk, NY, basically between syracuse and albany.
I thought this festival was great, I spent a large chunk of friday night working the staff parking lot but I still heard infected mushroom play a set I actually enjoyed, because it was a "classic" dj set instead of their live show. I am not sure what happened with crystal method, I don't know if they played a psy set, or didn't play or what but it was confusing.
Saturday day was really nice a combination of jammy psychedelic bands/psydub/psychill acts. Saturday night was excellent, although I wasn't a huge fan of the DnB, the psytrance was really great throughout saturday/sunday morning.
The festival grounds themselves were expansive and beautiful, the main stage was grassy and huge. Although it was a bit disorganized what festival isn't, it was still really well put together considering the last minute venue change and this being their first festival. I had a really awesome time and am excited for next year! |

I had a wonderful time at Desiderata. Perhaps I should not make comparisons to Orb festival as the festivals are different stylistically and whatnot, but as both festivals are close in region and attract similar crowds I will make a few general comparisons.
Desiderata was amazing in terms of organization compared to Orb festival - this goes for pretty much every aspect of the festival: the parking and camping situation, the food situation, the vendors, the staging, and the music flow.
I had relatively low expectations for the festival because of the late location change. Reorganizing everything so quickly must have been a huge undertaking, but the organizers not only pulled it off, but also did it beyond my expectations. The volunteers and the crew did an excellent job of keeping the grounds clean and keeping things moving and flowing. The artists were able to keep their schedule pretty much to a tee. First aid seemed to be on top of some issues that arose and security was doing their jobs as far as I could tell.
The only complaints I had would be the lack of actual flushing toilets on the site, the mix of music (and the mixing of pretty dissimilar vibes such as the festi-jam kids and the psypeople), and the temperature at nighttime.
The portapottys were actually emptied every day which was appreciated. If I had researched the area a bit more the temp would not have been a problem. My complaints about the dissimilar genres is not because I don't like the music, it has more to do with the differences in the way jammy/festival kids spend their fests versus the way psy and the more low key genre people approach them. There was some fairly aggressive vibes coming from the camping areas which was unusual for a majority psy type of fest.
Overall a wonderful festival and hopefully this venue can be used again in the future, with a few tweaks.
Oh and also wow Moonclear, that is either an amazing fakepost or you really need to get out of the psy scene and touch base with reality. The rambling diatribe you posted straddles some pretty delusional stuff and while humorous if it is real I really think you need to seek some help.
By the way I am actually a ghost who got murdered by the people in the bushes. Murder aside I had a great time. |

Desiderata was so awesome! Good vibes all around. I was at Orb Festival and while the Echo Lake location was beautiful in theory, it was kind of disgusting-no places to really kick back and relax in the general areas due to mud and such everywhere and condemned lake, so I was glad the location had changed. Gelston Castle Estates was awesome-the car camping area wasn't really my thing since everyone was on top of each other, but it worked out fine and was so much fun partying with neighbors.
But seriously-beautiful location and great stages and seriously just good vibes all around and we met so many great people and had so much fun. Infected Mushroom was awesome and it was cool that everyone was just dancing and partying-we hung out front and center during their set and it was unforgettable.
Saturday afternoon was great at the main stage-relaxing, ambient music perfect for hanging out. We brought a blanket out there on the field and hung out for hours. We brought a bubble machine out there and a bunch of people loved it-it was just so awesome!
I would definitely go to Desiderata again, especially if it is in the same location. Beautiful views on that mountain, we could see for miles and it was just awesome. The only problems with the location are really that it gets so COLD at night-we had sweatshirts/blankets but it wasn't enough, but if it is here again we'd definitely pack warmer clothes and blankets with that in mind. The other problem with the location is that there is a cemetery on site which means that the zoning for the land can never be changed to have real bathrooms and showers (I'm in funeral service so I kind of know some weird facts related to laws like that haha...) which is kind of a shame because there were definitely not enough porter potties for the amount of people and it would have been nice to have like even one real toilet stall to use (the shower setup was a cool idea-good improvisation on the festival's part even though I didn't use it!)
Only "real" complaint is that door tickets were $150 instead of the $140 it said on the website.
All in all, great times. |
