Yea, what happened to good old HH? It used to be one of the trance capitals, one of the places where it all was originally developed.
But X-Dream became boring and the Mushroom fanzine became a totally commercialized and often embarrassing "BRAVO" for teenaged MDMA-tweakers. HH's "Saint-Ashbury-District", the so called Schanze became a playground for some mercantile urban planers from Munich and got developed into a boring shopping mile. Then finally all the real freaks were chased outta town by Ronald Schill, so the scene was more or less left with those techno-cocaine-ego-fuckers who started to contaminate psy-parties after techno became a ridiculous Mardi Gras after 1999 and of course with those guys who take care of a steady supply for the drug-of-choice. So parties in HH are rather a clubby show-and-shine than about actual trance states of mind, it all got very clubby and therefore, at least for me, boring. With some rare exceptions, of course.
But to be honest, it never really was a psychedelic city. Maybe the Waldheim-Parties at the Powerhouse in 1996 were psychedelic, but HH was always quite demure, at least from a musical perspective. The ppl in HH just love minimal stuff.
But: Between 99 and 01, I used to organize small parties and I DJ-ed with a friend in HH. Our sound was pure psychedelic, we even played some old Koxbox and GMS tunes together with more actual stuff and it totally worked. Maybe just because this was something unusual for HH, but the ppl always seemed to like it. So, there's definetly potential.
But if you guys set something up, just let me know. I'm not living in HH anymore, but I'm there often (friends, family, decent drugs  ). As long as you don't make the mistakte to book Skazi, Domestic or some of that crappy Goa-Rave-shit, I'll be there!! |

hahaha ... i can agree to almost all whart mr. sideburner mentioned .. but i also have to say in such a big city as hamburg, its quit normal that almost every genre has its scene here ... its not different in berlin ... unfortunately hamburg is known as the minimalist offbeatfreaks capitol .. .
once a year we make our valentrance here which grows to a big success, as this year it was already fourth edition... we had zirkin as well u-recken to visit, and i have to say zirkin was a hard pill for hamburg ... uncompromising set .. killer ... and people ... they digged it ..
so if some organizers would start to bring more diversivied line up ... as i try to emphasize for years ... there is music for the night .. and music for the day ... so easy in fact ...
lets see .. and keep fingers crossed

Do we need more darkpsy in Hamburg? Indeed, as soon as possible if you ask me. Because I don't live far from hamburg I'd have the opportunity to take part.
I don't think that the Hamburg style of psytrance changed a lot during the past days. It sounds boring to me: Always the same old DJs playing the same old songs. You get what you expect, no surprises at all.
No, this is not my kind of music. I can hardly stand the "Hamburg sound" any longer. For me there is only one alternative: travelling to berlin. but that's pretty expensive  too expensive ( |
