Do u really think that every remix u hear (from a song 2 electro-music) is made only after asking permission?
Well then, lots of artists can sue other artists 4 using the same combination of chords or notes...
Its very hard 2 inovate sth new... cause mostly every-thing has been done... its like the high-tech situation, we reached a "mitun" (i have no english word 4 it, maybe some1 who studies economics can help me)....
Its hard 2 inovate, but i am not saying imitate (Hugo boss was pretty Naive)! just take sth u liked and try 2 change it 2 fit more of your style, or sth like that... u said it yourself, its a simple riff, any1 could have reached it without even hearing of Metallica!!!

Guy, there's a thing called manners. it is Customary to ask the owner of the track befor you remix it. of course, metallica is a whole different issue altogether. it's like i would take celine dione's "My Heart will go on" and remix it without permission. this is a well known song, and without permission im looking at a lawsuit, respectively

i totaly understand that jason, and i know that 4 example if u wanna remix a track made by some1 in the scene (a trance track) u need 2 ask 4 his permission, and i totaly agree that a person should ask 4 the right 2 the a remix... but i do i get 2 some1 like Metallica, or Celine dion or whatever?????
And i was only talking about taking that riff, and build atrack around it... no 1 can a have a reasonable case against me... i can say i've played with my computer, and just found that riff... its that simple....

Guy, the problem here is the attitude...

It's altogether uncorrect to rip someone's art and make out of it your own art + to get money for it... Metallica or not it's not the issue, but how can you make your own... If someone want to rmx certain piece of music he HAS to ask the permission of an artist - even if he is DEAD ( then he asks the label of the artist )

There are serious laws in this field and if you don't obey them u might loose your pants ( and the rest of your honor, cuz as we stated in many other threads concerning piracy - STEALING IS BAD )

Anyways, with all due respect to Metallica I don't see heavy metal music as a very psychedelic one... Actually I believe that since the disto guitars came into the Goa/Psy trance it started declining and definitely FINISHED being psy.

Psychedelics are something very very easy - full of air in between and quite twisted - that what makes it psy - definitely not a hardcore guitar riff ( as FUN as it can be )

For an excellent use of a RIFF like that in a track see - Illumination - E.S.C.A.P.E

my couple of cents

Yuli, i understand u 300& and i agree with u in an even great amount of percentage...
But what i was talking about is pure innocens, i wanted 2 c if it will work out nice, cause its a nice idea... i never planned of making money (e-legal money) out of it... and if i was, then i would have defenitly ask permission etc etc...
(btw yuli, what u wrote is worth at least 40 cents, dont under-estimate your self)
What i was talking about was as equal as some1 who is playing metallica tunes on his guitar at home.... as simple as that... so stop crusifying me people... I AM NOT A BAD PERSON (althogh i did have sexual relationship with that woman..hehe)

Crusifiction? No please

I stopped crusifying ppl some 2000 years ago ( and even then - especially then that was a mistake.. ) just as I said -

20 cents only...

BTW Guy I think it's very good to practice through recreation of other band's sound.. I think it actually works if you wanna learn your way into sound engeneering and track writing ;-)

if you can't innopvate something new... don't innovate anything... that's my opinion
and Mental already answerd that you should ask artists for their permission..
i personally don't want anybody who feels like to take samples from my work and make what he wants..

and something that is a little out of subject..

i trully believe that remixes (or covers) should never happen... with it, each track looses it's uniqueness..
it's a good way to show your style in an already placed one, but for me to be original really show who you are.
sometimes it seems that you don't know what to do so you just go and remake something already "opinioned"...
sometimes...
