I think that because the psytrance scene is still quite a small scene (even though it's growing consantly), then allot of the artists and dj's know each other, and so they use the internet to promote each other...

Example - many times i have seen DJ top 10 lists, mentioning unknown acts. Then, i here those tunes, and sometimes they really suck, or are badly produced. This makes me think that the DJ is mentioning this track in his list, in order to promote his friends music (or something like that ). Could it be true?

btw, i'm not accusing anyone here, and after all - 99.9% of the people in the scene are great people... pLuR           MiniMAL cabron...

Yes, I've noticed that too.
D.j's are promoting their friends. The question is: is that so bad?
You know how difficult it is to receive some fame, so any help could do, don't u think?           Majority is never right!

Everything is subjective when it comes of choosing what is good or bad produced..

imagine what it will happen if you produce music and even your friends dont promote it?

IMO everybody has to give a chance to all these unknown acts..

I don't think there is anything wrong with promoting a friends track, as long as you give an honest opinion about the music...

on a slightly different tack, it seems to me that most of the promotional groups (certainly here) are groups of mates and just get their mates to dj (with the possible exception of two headliners/guests )

personally i don't think there is anything wrong with this, its what i do with my night!
i know my friends are good dj's so why not get them to play. after all apart from at my parties they only have limited (possibly no) exposure.           >>love will tear us apart...<<

It also shows the a certain DJ had rare and underground stuff.
What will you say about a DJ that has only famous released material in his top 10?
Maybe it's good music but doesn't deliver anything new.

well i can't agree with you coz i discover that there isn't bad track , because music is a man feelin' with alot of translating options (not just music the whole art) .
dont you forget just as more you goin' underground the music will be more harder to listening. maybe you are not the type of person that listening to those tunes .
have some before
Peace baba

yeah,
this is an interesting point. it has occured to me before, i guess it depends really. Because if you are not quite as into the music as us lot on this forum, then that dj could spin an incredible set that would sound totally fresh to you. I mean i sometimes put on really ('96 and '97) mix cds when i have mates around and they rave about it.
Is it the job of the dj to have totally fresh sounds for the total trance heads or to provide a good sound track for your average party punter?
i suppose if you do have fresh and kicking tracks you will definitely be ok on both           >>love will tear us apart...<<

mike, here you get quite close to the point.

how you will get the fresh unreleased track's if not by asking for them from the people you in touch with, or your friend's that will ask you to keep them for "internal use only".

and they have to see you as reliable person and to trust you, cause otherwise they will find their track's traded illegaly all over the net.

personaly... i dont measure a dj by his "all my top 10 is unr".
u have no idea how many cd r not distributed here in israel. many cd`s r released in limited adition...

dj just got to tour the world and just buy some cd`s... u`ll b amazed by the amount of the tracks that u`ve never heard

and also lets not forget the mixing technique and track choice...

so an unreleased case dont make a dj a good dj.           if you want to be rich, u`ve got to be a bitch!

Woah......
I did not mean that a DJ has to have only unreleased stuff!
My opinion is against it actually, but he needs some unreleased material, and if that material is made by his friends and it's good, then why not?

Hi guys... long time no see.
Well, ya, the psytrance scene is quite small, almost like a big family .
But the thing is that some of the ppl in it feel as if they owe something to others.
Besides that, I believe it's a mather of respect and sociability.
Though I do believe that an individual shall be objective.
Oh well, you know the line "with a little help from my friends".
cheers.
