-- This one for everyone in general.... :

What do you prefer to buy or buy more.....

Compilations of diferent artists, or Albums?

-- This one more for label related ppl.....:

What about sales? Is there any relation between those? Do Artists cds sell more than compilations in general or vice versa?

I almost don't buy compilations, the last one that i bought was probably the first Crystal Skulls.
For me personally the shelf life of compilation is much shorter than the shelf life of artist album.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

I buy albums only, because in the past I was dissapointed by overal quality of most comps. These days when I buy a compilation it's only those from labels like Twisted, when I know all tracks will be great. Also I buy dj-mix comps.

i like comps a lot because they expose artists who are newer. sometimes i don't want to wait for an artist album to come out before i get some of their tracks.
on the other hand, sometimes comps have only a few good tracks. this is less likely with an artist album as if you like the artists, you'll probably like most of their tracks on their album...

so i guess i don't know really, depends

I like both for different reasons...

Compilations it is nice to hear a variety of different ideas and it helps to find new artists to look into. Plus a lot of artists try new things when they are working on a track for a compilation, maybe genres they don't normally dive into.

Albums because it really shows what an artist has to offer and are generally more unified because it is one idea that is drawn through the whole thing.

Hummm...cool, I see opinion varies with everyone

Yeah, I like them both also, there's more variety in a compilation, and sometimes not all the tracks are good, but other times it just rocks all the way, with plenty of good surprises

With Artists albums you know a bit better what to expect, its usually more consistent, and might stand better for the test of time, but sometimes it can also be a nasty surprise, if its not what you where expecting

compilations are good to find new artists and also to find some songs that are not released in the artists albums. but generally I dont think a lot of work is put into compilations. I mean making a compilation is relatively a lot easier than albums. so when I buy a compilation, I expect more than just the cd. maybe some more info on the artists, some good artwork, or special features in a cd.

I like both, comps because you can listen to new artist and overall you can have a good cd..

Albums are great also because you can see the style and variety of things the artist is up to.

I mostly buy artist albums, but I would buy a comp if I knew the artists on it are good or, like antic said, it's a Twisted comp           How am I supposed to hallucinate with all these swirling colors distracting me!
