Compilation PsyTropic Line -=- Psytropic Records (march 2006)

What we have here is the forth release of PsyTropic Records, a German label that up to now has released 40 previously unreleased tracks in 4 compilations. This is very welcome, I recommend other labels to do, I'm tired of buying albums with tracks I already have.

The release was compiled by DJ Chemicus, more known as Thomas the owner of PsyTropic Records. Thomas compiled 3 of the 4 PsyTropic releases, and I must admit I liked all his compilations, specially his second, the Pyrogenetic.

As usual with the PsyTropic releases, this one comes with some messages to the fans... Let me write some of them, to give you an idea of the PsyTropic philosophy:

"Thanks to the reviewers and writers of PsyTropic Releases in the past and all the honest and nice words. Thanks for your postings in forums and kind wishes to the crew. I really appreciate your work!"

Well, it's my pleasure, just keep releasing good stuff...

"Last but not least I want to thank you as acquirer of this Original Audio-CD because you make the dream come true of releasing psytrance music on a physical medium with more powerful quality than any dumb mp3 can ever do. You are the basic part of the puzzle to release also in the future quality Audio-CDs with good music and good designs. I recognize your given chance and in time will give it back!"


The CD itself has the usual high quality aspect of the PsyTropic Releases, and has the numbers, names and bpms of the tracks plus the writing: "Mp3 kills quality - Enjoy Original CD".
The mastering was made by Benno & Mani at Germany.
The cover art was engineered by Jan Morawec, he been designing the covers of the PsyTropic releases. It shows an abstract image, see for yourself:

Let's see what we have inside:

01. Man Made Man - 1000 Words --> The album beings with a tribal feeling and nice kick work. Nothing usual here, which I appreciate. Good synth choice and even better taste in the execution. Good track to begin the compilation.


02. Audiomatrixx - Triebwagen --> This is the slowest track here, but its 140 BPM have an involving atmosphere. I love the samples in the sexy feminine voice: "It will be a perfect time for you to receive the maximum benefits...". It is far from the usual full on tracks, in spite of its pounding bass it's not a dance floor murderer, and this is what I like about it, the fact that it develops in the direction of being different from mostly tracks today.


03. Genetic Spin - Magic Woods --> This is something stronger. Dense bass line. One more nice sample to the database: "Only the chosen ones may enter...". Trippy and packed with many layers of psychedelic effects, noises or melodies, around 4:00 it's soo crazy. I'm sure that on a powerful sound system this should sound like that Hallucinogen's frequencies. After the long break we have an interesting melody, but not like cheddar. Good track, best one for me until now.


04. PsyNina - PsyTropic Red --> What we have here? Nothing less than PsyNina, the most mysterious figure in the whole psyscene. And she's back with some porn samples from the movie Artificial Intelligence.

"- I think you're afraid of letting go.
I think you're afraid of happiness.
And this is starting to excite me.
- I'm afraid of what you've got under there.
May I see what it looks like first?
- That makes two of us.
- I'm afraid it will hurt.
- Are you afraid of seeing stars?"

Well, Sungirl have used the first three lines of this sample before, but the whole sample is much more porn.
OK, back to the track, it is sort of a steady track, sort of the same line of the previous PsyNina releases, but to me it sounds more mature. The following samples sort of talk to me:

"Because you can't control yourself... You don't have the power to stop..."

The music goes intense until the end, I think the bad point on this track is that some of the high frequencies seem to be too loud. Otherwise it is a nice track, best from Nina up to now in my opinion and fits well in this compilation.


05. Altom - People Are Strange --> Altom needs no introduction, these two French guys are one of the irreverent psy producers, signed by Neurobiotic Records and producing high-end full on. On this track, that starts with the sample: "People are strange", he continues to blast, it is a characteristic Altom track, a lot of melodies, reminds me a little of some GMS track. One of my favorites here.


06. Cosmic Tone vs Ultravoice - Freestyle --> Uhmm, a collaboration between two artists that are producing nice tunes lately. They began the track with overused samples from the end of the movie Matrix:

"I can feel you now.
I know that you're afraid.
You're afraid of us.
You're afraid of change.
I don't know the future.
I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end.
I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.
I'll hang up this phone.
And then I'll show these people what you don't want them to see.
I'm going to show them a world...
A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries.
A world where anything is possible."

This track is something along the lines of what Ultravoice has been producing lately, but has that held back attitude of Cosmic tune, as well as his characteristic synth lines. No build up with explosions, a more mental track. Good for home listening, nice work!


07. Neuromotor - Children Back In The Light Part II --> Neuromotor is another one that needs no introduction, he is around for a long time. This track begins in a funny style, gathering power and finishing in the usual neuromadness. At the very end it gets a little lighter, making it easy to mix it out.


08. PTX - One Moment --> This is the faster track here, 146 BPM. Intense full on with an involving bass, I think we can call this track the banger of the CD, it is a nice follow up to the Neuromotor track. After the main break with clear melodies it comes back rise some dust on the dance floor. Interesting tune.


09. InterSys vs PsyNina - Galaxy --> InterSys now is only Omri, one of the well-know PsyTropic artists. PsyNina has shown us what she can do in her previous track. The bass here goes up and down, and we have a long and emotional melody. Some samples I can't understand in the middle of the track, also the track gets a new kick and new bass, voices repeating, Nina's style. I found this track peculiar, very different from previous InterSys and Nina's tracks. InterSys uses to produce more melodic stuff, but usually clear melodies, not these full of effects. Nina produces tracks with no melodies. I liked the blend, specially the involving melody, after listening to it a thousand times while trying to understand the samples, the melodies got stucked inside my mind. I only understand something like: "I've been using psychedelics to clean myself..." I liked the way this track makes me feel.


10. Chromosome - Unstreamable --> To end this compilation we have a weird track from Chromosome. Today weird is good. Some distorted samples and the crazy track structure make of this tune something new and funny. I don't know what to say, it has a psychedelic spice, but I think I'll check it on the dance floor to see the effect. Anyway, nice track to close the album.


Verdict: 7.5/10. Psytropic present us with a solid compilation, starting with steadier tunes, walking into the harder side of full on and finishing in great style with the funny Chromosome tune. Here we got 10 previously unreleased tracks and more than 73 minutes of music, no fillers at all: It's a very good deal. The album also has a good progression which makes it nice to home listenning.

Favorites: 1, 2, 3(!), 4, 5(!), 6, 7, 8, 9(!), 10(!). All good tracks, some are not in my style, but they are well produced and good to listen at home.

Recommendation: I recommend this release for people after different tracks, to add some spice to DJ Sets or to listen at home. There are no Killarghh tracks here, and this fact makes this release sound fresher on the dance floor, and very good to home listening. If you're a DJ don't be afraid to play these tracks, they really fill the space when played on powerful sound systems.

Very phat,, Psytropic Red is by far the best on the cd and a favorite of mine right now           ohm - dance. Dance is active meditation. When we dance we go beyond thought, beyond mind and beyond our own individuality - to become one with the divine ecstacy with the cosmic spirit.

First of all very nice review and thanx for the nice words on our track....not sure I understand the cheddar part though please write me a private message, I really wanna know what it is?

I must say I enjoy all the tracks but if I would have to pick out a few favorites it would have to be 1, 8 and 9

Manmademan because it's 100% unique, very well produced and with a twisted buildup. Only minus is a mather of taste that I would wish a more present theme sound/melodi to make the track even more catchy.

PTX because it puts my mind right on the dancefloor eventhough I'm just at home lying in my bed. These guys must be djs or busy partypeople because it sounds like the experience of 7000 parties or dj sets melted down into a 7 minutes track. A real party full on track that never becomes childish, perfect for parties but also for home listening because it's very nice sounding.

Intersys I'm amased, everytime I think "fuck full on it's too much the same" I always seem to find a track like this that show me the opposite. What can I say, here I get a theme sound/melodi that can't really get any better, real dreamy, catchy and even puts you in a certain mood. I know it's a big think to say and a sensitive subject but the mood this track gets me in actually reminds me a little of when I listen to Cosma. I think that's a very big compliment and I would never say it if I didn't honestly mean it.

Well that's all I have to say for now, looking forward to reading some more opinions

Thank you very much for the nice comments on my track with Intersys.
I love the spirit and the power in the track. I hope more people can get this feeling and enjoy music.

I really really likes the compilation with all the nice artists.
Today I get 10 CDs of this and the first 10 people who email me in Psy_Nina@hotmail.de get a CD. I will sign the CD personally.
