i think infected are not making music just for money cauze if ull ask their fans they will tell you they liked the old infected style more than today
and some will even tell u that they wont buy their album cauze they dont like them anymore
but i dont think infected cares...they just keep with their new style cauze thats what they like...
and their ambient and freestyle tracks u will talk after ull hear the freestyle side of the album
and im sure ull take your words back..their ambient is amazing!!!
also astrix but not as infected.
astrix is commercial i agree his tracks sounds the same but infected make the most original things ive ever heard.
u taled about the EP they released with the israeli singer....whats bad in that??!?!....its original...not commercial
this EP was great!!!
and when a cd sells very little u will say its because of the net and that people sould buy music
but when people buy very much u say its commercial!
i think infected sells a lot cauze they are good and people like them not becauze anything else!
i cant see whats wrong is selling lots of cds!

I think that one of the problems of psy trance is that it can be very inward looking and in that respect (and a lot of others) can be said to be very similar to Heavy Metal (theres a whole new thread to be written on that one!).

Although the music is different (although judging by the amount of guitar tracks coming through - maybe no that different) - the obsession about "real" music and "not selling out" is similar. I'm always amazed when anything with a hint of melody is dismissed as cheesy or commercial when you look at how melodic mid 90s goa trance was.

Obviously the scene in Israel is very different to the UK - but why so concerned if a lot of people buy an artist? If you like them - buy the tune s- if not - let other buy them and concentrate on tunes you do like!!

GMS make commercial music, because I think that they release every track that they compose. That doesnt mean that they dont make killer tunes. Some of their releases are killers (like william wallace, medieval times and more) but some other are too bad (like shrek). And that bad habit of remixing too many tracks... Astrix makes nice music, very energetic that is killing the crowd on the dancefloor. But every track is the same... No progression to his music... His ambient tracks are nice but they are a little bit cheezy, too soft and "easy listening".           In This World Have Your Own Bpm...

No psytrance artist can be considered commercial, IMO.

At most they can be Popular among some group of people.
The can sell, let's say, 20.000 copies of a CD, but this make them commercial? No way...

For sure Infected, GMS, Astrix, Alien Project, Yahel, etc are POPULAR among DJs all around the world. That means their songs are listened at parties.

And other thing: to become commercial, you need strong marketing.
Respect!

IF your complaining about GMS, Astrix, etc. than you are missing the point. If you don't like their tracks then don't buy their remixes or their cd's or go the parties, etc. just fawk it.

underground, commercial, blahhhhhh! its like a craptacular high school clique, "if you like Yahel than you can't sit at our lunch table". When did psy-trance become an elitist sport? I saw Duvdev spin on sat. in NYC. he played a solid set and had the people there rocking. It was at a huge artist's loft space in a converted warehouse. good deco but the sound system blowed my but cheeks.

STOP WHINING AND HAVE A GOOD TIME! if you want to start a new revolution than go invent your own.

It's getting damn annoying for me as one of the "oldies" to see our scene (or should i say some people?) getting more and more judgemental about what's "underground" and what's "commercial".
It's about music - period!
This scene was build on the ideology that no matter who, what and where you come from you are welcome. There have always been room for experimentation in music in our scene and all of a sudden it started to be about who was selling out and who was the "real" underground artists. What the f*** is this all about? Is it to sell out because people start to pick up your CD's and actually buying them? It's called a natural progression people ! Nothing stay "underground" forever and god thanks for that! I for one like to be able to make a few bugs out of my music that I have used so much time, effort and money to make. No matter if you sell 5 copies or one million the fact remain that if the music is made with love and compassion it can never be seen as "selling out"... to sell out is when an artist sit down and say "I will now make music I dont like in order to make some fast cash"... I seriously doubt that that many artists do that...I even think that Britney Spears enjoy what she do and also like the music she sing to !

To call artists "sell out's" can only be interpretated as jealousy - in my opinion !

Taste is taste so instead of these endless pointing fingers and whining about "selling out" then buy what you like YES BUY IT!!!!! and leave the rest alone for those who like it....it's as simple as that !

Ermmmm sorry to rock the boat !!!

Whoever is claims that alien project gms etc has sold out is talkin nonsense ....ie midnight sun or even " the ring " feat on the aztechno dream album none of these traks were ever picked my by a major uk label ...ie ministry , positiva ...or serious ....reason how many s named dj's in the uk playin goa/psy trance

only 1 joof now n again - got his own label and still no sign of psy trance being released through his label ...
remember its the uk which many producers want to make there name ....ie gettin feat in mixmag , muzik , dj monthly ...i safely say there hasn't been one psy trance cd nor has there been any interviews with psy trance artist/labels / producers .......

in sayin that M8 has been the only mag 2 review psy trance material
amen by joof
astral p ep - d+a v ap - pure nrg ........

the orig mix of that double pack was well cheesy and tryin to break into the uk market ...as the majority o trance played by dj's is well cheesy !!!!!!!

And last night i was playin at the ice factory in which i played
the ring
speakin robot
scientific reality
self destruct
lsd

at the end the promoter who held the night as it was comp i was playin wanted to know where i got my tunes from and what style was ...so i said it was psychi trance and also ive had another dj as well wantin to know as well ......
