the emergence of the yakuza comes as the scene has become institutionalized. you pay the yakuza like some of the big organizers in Tokyo, and they become your security. but then you have to deal with them hanging around, and also trust me the vibe does change.

i think its maybe good the scene does go underground for a little while here because it has attracted alot of negativity. like with any 'boom' that becomes institutionalized you get a lot of punters and inexperienced partiers that overwhelm the perhaps more mature elements and then you get a bad situation, especially in a psychedelic environment, and quickly the good turns to bad, ODs, fights then ambulances, police, mental scarring, etc.

forget about the cash, and let it get back to the roots. its still a good scene, but like any scene, its made up of the people that are in it, and i think the higher and elevated consciousness it the goal, not a bunch of idiots at a drug party trying to get fucked up and crazy like its kind of become lately..

imho, the scene here is going back to the roots, the small party, and the rave, friends getting together to have fun, about the music, not the drugs, and hit the peaks, which is only a good thing. the big parties, Vision, Solstice, Nagisa will maintain their pattern, which also is good

sorry if it sounds harsh, just my 2 cents           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

Word.

There is so many nice underground parties going on , and personally its good that way.

On the other hand, just Id like to point out that dealing with clubs doesnt mean dealing with Yakuza. At least not directly.
Been doing parties (UNIT,Womb,LA FAbrique among the others)for the past 3 years in Tokyo (not psy-trance parties tho) and never had any problem or never had to deal with Yakuza .

yeah, i dont think they care as much about the smaller places... I was referring to a few specific parties, organizers, and venues that cater to the larger crowds, big name acts. you probably know who..

many good mid-sized organizers manage to stay under the radar of the yaks, or have skill with keeping them out

btw, what is the name of your event?

If Japan went back to a small scene like when I was there in 95-97, you guys would be gaining something special for sure....best of luck to all who promote there....           assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

Sad to read this, but i guess this is inevitable when the phenomenon is getting bigger and bigger. So the good vibes are back to the underground... But where should a stupid gaijin like me dig to connect to them ?

Manas also do good parties. They have one coming up next month. Similar feel to Psy16. We help each other out with our parties, so there's good cross-over of good people.

This is bad to hear this. I am planning a trip to Tokyo in the summertime and was looking forward to some of the psy clubs there. Oh well there will always be good vibes at the smaller outdoor ones.

Peace and ohms

Manas do amazing parties and have done for 6-7 years now. This one should be very special because the organizer's expecting a baby so not sure what will happen in the future. I will post full info in another thread.

It is just a matter of concept how organizers want to make it happen. If he goes commercial party, there may be a lot of chance to grab more money even many risk comes along. I wonder how many that kind of organizers I have seen them walking like their something BIG in the town of Roppongi. Now most of them are gone and history.

Manas does good one as well as Psy16 for sure. Those are good model of organizers not focusing on making life with party.

Well, this is starting to go off topic but I want to comment on this.

I think what Shed said is right. Bigger party - bigger risk. Some organizers want to throw a big party and get money. They spend a lot on big name international acts, they get a big crowd for a couple of parties then one party no-one comes and they lose big time.

Another type of party. They start small, even start with free park parties in Yoyogi, Odaiba and then grow over the years gathering members until they make a few underground outdoor parties in the Summer with a few hundred people. These parties have a loyal following.

Both big parties and underground parties have good and bad points. I can enjoy both but my heart and soul belong to the underground parties of Manas and Psy16... this is my home, my music, my friends. I hope everybody can find a home like this whether its at a big party or underground one.
