Well, new forum is up, so let's starting talking music shall we boys and girls?

So, lately most progressive releases have had quite a lot of club-influenced touches...this Atmos mixed cd is one example, "Mixture" by Iboga is another one...

What I wanted your take on is: why is that happening, is that a definite trend, and are the boundaries between psy trance and other genres (house, tech-house, etc) just melting away?           the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist....

Yes, you are right. But IMHO the main issue in this changes is money...

You are probably right....but do these releases sell consistently more than other, non-club ones?

because if they don't, than what's the point?

come on folks, fire away

As i have stated befor, music is somthing which cannot be bounded and cannot be defined. if somthing sounds good, why not? if it mooves people and makes them shake their assess, then why the heck not?

whether or not you have clubby influences in the music which you create, is beside the point. since u can also have metal influences, classical influences and even Arab Musical Influences. it's all mixed in to a blend of musical style which carries a different message to every one.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. Well maybe because while it's clubbier it still manages to be psychedelic...

Reece dude, full-on full power crazy music is not the only psychedelic music out there.

Well, IMO, psytrance has become a party music style. It is music made for parties, much more than for listening at home. It's much easier to dance to music that works by tried and tested grooves, imported from Techno or House.

Bitmonx works better on the dancefloor than Texas Faggot.

It doesn't make it better music, but it does mean you'll hear more Bitmonx, GMS, The Delta or Electric Tease (each one with his prospective style) on CDs. This is because the people who decide what music we'll hear are the DJs. The DJs have become more influential than the artists as to the genre's sound. Even more than labels (call me a cynic, but Dimitri is stronger than Posford at setting musical trends today). 1994-1996, the music was defined by compilations on TIP and Dragonfly - you knew what the music will sound like in the future by buying the new TIP compilation. Today people buy/get the music they hear at parties.

If the first Koxbox album would be out today - even though it is a lesson in psychedelia and still musically relevant (and genius), it would sell (much) less than an album by Beat Bizzare, or Ticon, or Son Kite, or GMS, or Talamasca, or a million other acts. Which with all due respect - I can't hear at home (even though they do move me at parties).

What is wrong with becoming commercial?
If an artist is talented, he will make the same music if he does it for money and if he does it for himself.
People need money to live. Commercial is not such a bad word...

I didn't say anything about music being commercial or not. Music is just a lot more party oriented, and a lot less for listening at home nowadays. With all due respect, as much as I love Haldolium, when I'm at home I prefer some old Juno Reactor or MFG... or even a few tracks by Astral Projection, which I don't really like.

What freakin money!
Psy artists are some of the least paid most talented artists in the world.... and what difference does it make if its clubby, if it makes you move then its all good :-)            "Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience"

as long as it's done good....

i cant understand ppl who threat a musical janner (psychedelic for example) as an army unit .... , that u are forbidden to like other janners.

it's okay if artist mix several styles to one track ,as long as it sounds good & flowing i dont see what's the problem...

It can't be done, because the more fans you have it's harder to keep in personal touch with them.[addsig]
