Star Shpongled Banner (Brothomstates remix)

Nice to see one of the best IDM artists doing a remix on 'our' Shpongle. I think there are loatsa possibilities to integrate the psysound with some IDM. Or the other way around.

Imo the newest shulman is much closer to the Orb than any IDM. Ditch the house, club and techno influences and start experimenting.

Urlich suppoze to come to ha-zofe club in tel aviv in februar i guess, his first gig in israel a year and half ago was a most amazing thing i saw in a while, it was first time when i felt at idm party - thats it, this is party music !!! all rest times i miss something in parting to those tunes but Urlich was something different, ppl danced!!! not a secret Micropeople were the ones who brought him (and alot of others idm abroad acts, u just should visit tel aviv more:)) but for a truth a real real bomb was LoSoul that is a playhouse dj and producer, the one who combine soft micro house groove with idm and also realy impressive dj, this is smart party music (also very sexy), too bad we missed his live with a singer in hamburg this summer.

about leading persons - also in trance leading persons work on its special sound - gms, son kite, blah blah blah;)

Well... classical music has never really been recycled to electronic music format. It would be interesting for example to hear Aphex Twin, Shpongle and etc to remake some of those old masterpieces with todays technology/soundscapes. And you would not lose anything if somebody did recycle some classical music... it's quite easy... just don't listen to it.

Ps. Anakoluth thanks for the recommendations.. I'll check them.

Pps. what NHF means?

Billy Ambulance! I like that name!

Dancehall has been around for YEARS, like since I was a kid and I'm 27. It's recently taken on a few more hip-hop influences (maybe or maybe not a good thing, I'm not sure that I like the more hip-hop influenced stuff, despite owning (and loving) a fair bit of dancehall, anyway...). I think a lot of hip-hop producers (Timbaland, The Neptunes, Outkast) are really innovating and pushing the envelope of what can be done with sound and music. Crazy new sounds and beats.

IDM isn't a term I've heard before. I've always just referred to it as experimental stuff. For a start you can't dance to most of it!!! Some of Aphex's stuff is the least intelligent music I've heard (73 Yips). It's fair to say that the people making that kind of music (Tom Jenkinson, Aphex himself, Luke Vibert, Mike Paradinas, Autechre, Rephlex crew, Warp crew etc.) are pushing the envelope in terms of original music, and their stuff is great, but I don't think they have much influence on anything other than each other. Don't get me wrong, I love Aphex, and Autechre they're geniuses (not a word to be used lightly), but these guys are kinda mining their own seam of electronic music.

I think it's rubbish when people try to rework classical stuff, it just ends up sounding pompous and cheesy. I remember a guy a few years back did an album of Mozart reworked electronically and it stank. Maybe that was just because this guy didn't do a good job of it (he did try and make it into dance music) but I just think it's one of those things that sound like a good idea but don't work very well in practice, although William Orbit's "Barber's Adagio for strings" was passable. I think the trance producers would probably do a better job than anyone of this because of all electronic music trance is the most musically complex, and these old masterpieces were the work of some of the best composers who ever lived.

Sorry, I've just read this back and it sounds like such a negative post, but the point I'm getting to is....

I think todays producers are really just limited by their own imaginations and the equipment they have access to. Not everyone has access to a great studio.
Music is constantly shifting and mutating, it's a wonderful thing, but it's not often you hear something THAT original... Things just usualy grow and mutate, then someone sticks a label on something... and suddenly you have "scandinavian-punk-trance-ragga" or whatever.

i've always thought that psytrance was the best at incorporating other genres. there's psyhouse, psybreaks, progressive, psyDM, Psy and bass, classicalpsy, psygrass, psyjazz, psypop... all kinds of stuff gets conquered...all the remixs of Pink Floyd and such...
in fact that's kinda why i like psytrance so much is that anything can turn into it...i always hear trance in everything after a party (the sounds of the train, the car, the shower, the refridgerator, everything...)so as far as what's next, i think every style of music will be consumed (and redefined)by psytrance in the eventually
