Ok so I've tried posting this on the games and music section but no one answered. I wanted to know who here likes or has even heard of chiptunes/8bit?? I'm really getting into it. If you don't know what it is, its basically video game music and I'm a huge old skool video game nerd. Chiptunes and 8-bit are similar but chiptunes has very distinctive sounds that they use and 8-bit is where doods take apart old videogame systems like the commodor 64, nes, sega master sytem, gameboy, atari etc.. and they also use a cool sequencer someone made for gameboy. If you ever download cpu applications that require you to use a keygen to unlock it then you've probly heard some chiptunes. The only thing I know of is the blip fest here in nyc which I have yet to go to. Does anyone know where to see this stuff in nyc besides the blip fest?? Here are some examples. I always thought it would be nice to see a chiptune set in the downtempo/prog room at parties.

These are chiptunes:

This is 8-bit:

when I was 13, I used to cover bauhaus songs and make weird techno beats using ScreamTracker 3 on PC (for drums mostly), guitar, vocals, and 4 track cassette recorder.

if you are into chiptunes, you should try downloading some MOD/S3M/FT? files....

i'd say you should watch some demoscene demos too, but most of them were made to run on MS-DOS....

there are VSTs around that can do various chip style FX, as well as the modern tracker program "Renoise."

this is not chiptunes persay, but definitely some good tracker-programming ... close nuff

there's even been some psy done like this too... Look for Bodhisattva 13:20 - PAC vs R2D2

I know of a new unwashed tomato track that might fit in that alley too, but you'll have to wait for them to play it, or for the album either or.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Yea I know. Bodhi is cool. I just got a book today in the mail from him all about reason. Also I just got this comp the other day called VA - GOAgemein.de Compilation Vol.1. I heard a track from it on triplag which uses that chiptune sound and I just had to find it so I went to the site and e-mailed the guys and they sent me the wav files. The track is Gloomy Phantom - Darkness is where u find me. Awesome track. That video above is gabber right? I never understood that stuff. But that track is cool. Not as bad as happy hardcore thats fer sure.

The track above is considered breakcore, its by venetian snares, one of the best producers around. but yes, it definately has gabber influences, just as intense and more engaging than alot of psy.

Cool. BTW I think Tom Cosm uses 8-bit sounds in his trax as well.

I think he just uses the bitcrusher effect in ableton that gives it a lowfi lower res sound which is quite similar to 8-bit, alot of electro has an almost 8-bit vibe.

Like doods playing with gameboys on stage. I think blipfest is in december. I'll make a post about it when it comes around if anyones interested.

Yea I really like that faxi nadu thing. Not exactly what I meant but still cool. Sound ore like he took some actual nes and genesis tracks and added stuff with cubase which sounds awesome. I really like how he did my fav final fantasy track, the chocobo song with all those drums and stuff. I made a crappy little mix with the songs I was talking about. I found a bunch that were actually extracted from the keygens I was talking about. I'm not a dj so its not that great. it has its moments i guess. It was kinda hard since alot of the tracks are 1 min and a half long. I uploaded it incase anyone is interested. pm me if you want any of this music. http://www.sendspace.com/file/fhspci

yea that first track is not really chiptune. I was picking tracks at random and haven;t listened to all of em. the real annoying sounding ones are chiptune. they all use those same sounds.
