hi all. Heard about this discussion from eklypse.

I'm going to MAGE2 from chicago, but my partner probably won't want me offering rides to folks we don't know (yet). Sorry.

I am talking to the guys in touchsamadhi about starting a new psytrance event. I have an idea for a venue. When/if it happens we will post it here. I also have an outdoor event every June in the suburbs that will have all-night psytrance. We will post more as it gets closer.

I recommend Chicagoans check out Gaian Mind, which isn't that far away.

Also, there is a monthly trance dance event (not just psytrance tho) you might like. www.tzdtribe.com Get on their mailing list. It has more a spiritual vibe, not a club atmosphere.

I agree that it's kind of crazy we don't have anything at all happening in the psytrance world locally.

Anybody who like me regards dance as spiritual, and is Chicago local, please contact me privately. I have a list you might want to join.

M.A.G.E. II Review

We are still amped to have been a part of M.A.G.E. II
Subconscious Collective did an amazing job organizing this event.
It was a pleasure to work with such a professional collective.
The manner in which they work is truly respected.
It was an amazing spectacle to see such a vast array of ages at the event,
truly uplifting to see so many people of the younger generation showing up to
get into Psy - seems like in most places the word psyTRANCE is quickly
dismissed into what is known as mainsteam trance. This was not the case in
Aimes, Quite a diverse attendance!

ON with the review!
Zay, Boozer & DJ Storm really added to the environment with their
fluoro banners & decor.
It was performance art to watch you guys in UV splotted
jumpsuits & wigs hanging the art.

We really enjoyed visually collaborating with all the talented DJs
involved with this event.
Flawless mixes all night long.

Dr. Mindbender set the night out right
with an equal balance of light & dark psy-tunes.

Astrlvapor added a very unique & surreal notion to the night.
Choice selections led a great organic tribal psy/goa journey &
proved to be the perfect wooden planked bridge from the darker
side of Dr. Mindbender to the techy madness laid out by Vax...

Vax laid some psy-tek tek tek tekno heard not before. We've had
the pleasure of experiencing great psytrance artists as well as
techno artists perform. But not anything like this... Beat building
beats upon patterns evolving, escalating & morphing over time,
Vax simply had the crowd going crazy.

Freedom & Shagee are the perfect tag team duo. Their stage performance
was outstanding. Both of their personalities are very complimentary
and their actions resonate through the audience. They slowly built
upon the structure Vax laid out, then unleashed the wrecking ball.
They covered a wide area of newer relentless full-on psy to
some of the best, but not-so-often played older full-on goa

S.O.T. & Kaiser Soze transitioned & ever slowly but perfectly added the
much needed space between & a few feathers in a valley. They were
like two cosmonauts in a 4x4 that could & would go anywhere & everywhere.
Their programming & track selection was immaculate.

Dj Storm took it down another notch, only to add & mix the perfect sunrise
concoction. The crowd had thinned out a bit, but only enough to give space
to those crazy zim zam zooming early morning dancers. It was evident that
this was a night to remember & DJ Storm ended it on the perfect note .....
Slowly faded down the audio around 9 a.m. only to hear Ahhhhhhhhhhhh Comon
Play one more...Juust play one mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooore track.

Well, since this thread is still called "chicago-land" let me throw out a venue question because I need some advice QUICK.

I have an outdoor venue that I have used for a couple of years. It is in the Chicago metro area and it's beautiful, but also pretty expensive. It has a lodge that can accommodate maybe 50 dancers, not really big enough for a full-scale event. It was good for smaller things I was doing, but the really bad thing about it is the camp charged me per "camper" at a rate which averages out to $22 per person. So I could not do an edm event there and charge less than $25 per person. This seems pricey to me. But the advantage was this location was in the chicago metro area, not a long drive.

I just found another outdoor location. It has a large building that can accommodate 300 people, and is regularly used for dj'ed events. It has a lake, a beach, and is beautiful. The only downside is it is about 1 hour from Chicago (in Indiana). The best thing about it is that they are willing to negotiate a flat fee that will be well under $10 per person venue cost. So I can charge $10 a head and still cover expenses outside of the venue itself.

It seems pretty clear that I should choose the second venue, which is cheaper and will accommodate a larger crowd. But it's an hour drive into rural Indiana. Will people drive an hour to get to a psy trance event? I would, and it looks like most of the people who attend Gaian Mind, Together, or other events do.

I would like some advice pretty soon, because I need to put some money down by this weekend in order to guarantee a June 2005 event date.

Thanks.

Considering I drive a minimum of 2.5 hours to get to the nearest psytrance event, I would absolutely drive out to Indiana. But then again, I do live in Michigan, so this is probably closer to me than Chicago anyways . I think you will find that most people would be more than willing to drive 1 hour for this kind of event, especially if it lasted for more than 12 hours.

FINALLY!!

hey mann the closer to Indiana the BETTER!!

I do not think that people in Chicago would mind driving one hour to the event + you wil be attracting a whole new target audience as the Indiana crew WILL come - I guarantee that!!
