OK, it isn't so 'traditional', but this is how I do it.

I can't quite give you the measurements, you will have to play around. Anyhow, Chai is made a mostly milk base. MILK is your number one ingredient. Put a bit in a pot over a low to low-medium flame... then add some Honey (about one part to each 6-8 parts milk. I add then a bunch of cinnamon, a bit of cardamon (Which Israelis call HELL, that funky shit in Turkish Coffee). And last but not least tea... Use Asam Indian tea, or Darjling, or Tzailon Tea (Tzailon is now known as Sri Lanka, the country). about 1 part tea to 4-5 parts milk). Stir it around all the time over the flame. I make it at work using an espresso machine's steamer... Steamed it is much more frothier and in my opinio, the way to go.

good luck.

if you use my recipe, tell me where, and if I show, I want a courtesy cup :)

Here's what some good old Indian mama taught me- nobody can beat my Chai :-)
Black tea, ginger, cloves, cardamon, cinnamon, sugar, and a little black pepper. Boil in 2/3 milk, 1/3 water.
You'll learn the quantities as you go. Try to get the ginger fresh, the cloves & cardamon whole, Cinnamon sticks, tea as leaves (be very easy on the tea) and brown sugar.
Have fun.

ok, i c that u already got a few recipes so far, but i can still add some ingredients that u can use as well.
i would make chai from milk (which u can mix with water about half-half, depending on how milky u want it 2 b), tea, honey/sugar/brown sugar, ginger, cardamon (hel), cinnamon, tziporen (i don't know the name in english), and u can also add some rose water.
as 4 the quantities it's best 2 do some trial and error until u know what u like.
it's important 2 actually cook everything on the heating and not 2 just heat the milk and then dip everything in.
good luck and enjoy!

Ive got an easier recipe due to the fact teh spices are bought as a mix (you can get it in many places but i fidn the "nachlat beniamin" mix to be the reechest. Anyhow you put about 13 of the amount of liquide you want as water and boil them with tea (i usually put about half a glass of water and boil it with a tea bag, u can masure on ur own taste), then i add about a glass of milk (thats 23 more) and the chai mix, extra cinamon (the mix has cinamon inside i just happen to like cinnamon), honey or sugar or both, and almonde concentrated syrup (about a teaspoon), i let it boil together for about 5 minutes mixing it rapidly, and let it calm for about 5 more after (so the spices themselves sink down to the bottom of the pot and the chai cools down). Vwalla!

Chai is tea- the Indian Chai ppl are refering to when they say Chai is Massala Chai, meaning tea with a mixture of spices. Massala Chai can be found in north India.
Gil, the mix is easier but you can't beat the fresh spices and it is worth the work.
Guyzen, "ziporen" is cloves.
