IMO it would be stupid to buy the cd by its cover, i usualy buy after hearing a few long samples (saikosounds type) from it.           "Great things are only possible with outrageous requests." Thea Alexander

im afraid that psy has a lot of bad covers. i tend to "not judge a book by its cover," if you know the expression. its hard to get an idea of whats going on in the music just by looking at the cover, maybe something more artists should spend more time on.           The IsraTrance MySpace Group:

Regarding the CD covers, most of the CDs have horrible Artworks....(old school fractal-like graphics).
IMO there are only few Labels that care about the Cover design....
but personally I prefer to DL the music directly from internet based music stores...It's direct, fast, cheaper and no storage problems...

i think that cd covers are really nice on most cds but i remeber when you used to buy vinyl a big part of it was the cover you would really take an interest in it and sometimes even get posters inside, although you did only want the music inside at the end of the day. I think that a lot of the artwork gets lost in such small covers IMO.

agreed, this type of positively mutual relationship can explain many releases out today.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Hehe the covers now mostly sck, just look like ano old electroninc music cd, nothing special anymore... the old cd's had soem great fractal images and other ideas, bt it's not 'cool' to have that, it's better to belike Dja Vu and have porno on the front... or sexy girls like house music so you sell more cd's... it's just really weird coz the last thing on my mine when I'm tranced out is a chick or sex, usually it's havng a good time with the music... likt the spirituality in this scene, you have to search so bloody hard to find anything worthwhile naymore, and by the time you get it, it's usually not worth the efoort you put in...

Honestly, the first time I picked up an Exogenic release was because the cover intrigued me. Then, I listened to the music inside, loved it and bought it.           Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

I try not to be influenced by an artwork, but a really good one can intrigue you and a really bad one can make you think twice about buying a cd.

I buy records (all genres) since the early 80s and good/cool artworks really added to the kudos of an act or a label.
Just think about all the artwork by Factory (UK label, amongst others, of Joy Division.
It is still great.

Regarding psytrance artwork in general I think it's generally "over the top" and a bit kitch.
I think this is due mainly to the fact that there are a lot of influences from india where putting togther as many colors as possible and big designs are the normality.

But I generally think that the artwork-style never really developed in 10 years of music and the majority of covers represent fractals or the usual computer generated spaceships/machinery...just done with more powerful pcs. And I think this is a bit sad.

There are a few exceptions, like
Sub6-Who needs love songs
Son Kite-all the latest series of cd-dvd
Which are really cool.

But there are also a few artworks which can really be worse than average. I particularly don't like artworks with ridiculous pictures of the act.
An example are all the Yahel covers...
Or the latest "Psychedelic Academy" mixed by Astrix
http://212.227.206.198/cgi-bin/zoom.cgi?hit2cd002_b.jpg:CDs/hit/hit2cd002.html:;
which I think is horrible.
By the way, IMO Psychedelic Academy is a great project that should potentially give exposure to psy-trance to a new audience.

I listen also to Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Leftfield etc...and I think those electronics acts are good, solid and have a reputation even outside the electronic music lovers.
Psytrance is great music and most music lovers don't even realize it...and IMHO this is a bit of a shame.
Packaging the music with poor or cildish artwork does not help.
I know that music is the more important thing in the end, but artwork is important too.
It's like good decos at a party...they really add to the vibe...

Well, that's my opinion on the matter!
