Ive said the same thing, but I realized that no matter how many commercials, how many corporate sponsors, or gawkers or cops or whatever, there are; the core is still there, the ppl who are there to realize true freedom in a temporary autonomous zone, and nurture the creative, in SPITE of commercials and jerkasses. Everything that is fun and worthwhile eventually attracts thrillseeking individuals who may or may not understand that others view it as a much more serious and intentional thing. So it goes. Ignore the jerks and smile.
To kinda put it inperspective; JUST the fees the BLM charges, just to have the thing, is half a million bucks. Add to that hundreds of professional staff (many volunteers) and all the infrastructural supplies. You get the idea. The Black Rock playa is literally a wasteland that the 'authorities' stuck the event in, I highly suspect as a deterrant attempt, and you bet they make it as difficult as they can regardless; their entire existence is challenged by the real freedoms enjoyed during the event, their entire world is dependent on the status quo staying the status quo. Which of course, means that its not just a week of freedom but a necessity to counterbalance that status quo/shepherd's crook, showing that there is no realistic way that a small percentage can dictate anything to the mass, overwhelming majority, except in their own nitpicking, money hungry 'NO DON'T' terminology. We are always free, some just have to be reminded/force-fed the truth, that there is no such thing as governmental control, or autority, or even national identity, when ppl get together in a large enough group, theres nothign that can be done to stop it but to snipe at the stragglers and throw sticks from the sidelines.
Keep in mind, too, that its about freedom, but that also means that the gawkers, cops, Microsoft, MUST. Be allowed the same freedom. You want to run around naked? Cool, well, they wnat to put up ads and hand out product samples, and they want to patrol/gawk at boobs/keep up appearances that there is actually a governing body. To each their own.
