I've just received the debut album by Bluetech called Prima Materia on Waveform Records. Its an album that varies from spacious ambient to dubby bass chillout and, in places, reminds me of Sounds From The Ground. Its a beautiful album with some interesting melodies and effects.

Leaving Babylon (6:43)
Prophetic Sines (6:16)
Triangle (retriangulated) (7:02)
Rubicon (5:57)

This CD was made by a very friendly guy named Evan who is very active in the psy producer community. I bought his CD immediately upon listening to the samples on the Waveform webpage, and have not regretted my purchase for one second. LOTS of variety here, as Unity Dub mentioned, with lots of attention paid to crafting unique sounds and arrangements. The melodies are delicate and sophisticated at once, and the whole effect is quite mesmerizing.

My favorite track is 7th Phase Dub - a beautiful blend of electronics and acoustic guitar, which is probably my favorite combination of sounds in any type of music.

Overall I highly recommend this CD!

Hey, thanks for the kind words guys! This album took a lot of time and energy to construct, and I am glad that people are enjoying it. It will be officially released on Sept. 23rd, but there are copies available on the Waveform site.

For any body in the US, I will be touring with Shakatura this fall. Info is here: www.ambientalchemy.com

Thanks again Unity Dub!

" The debut release from southern California's Evan Bluetech. Bluetech melds the electronic with the organic, utilizing custom-built Reaktor instruments and software based synthesizers like Metasynth and Zeta+. His traditional classical training brings a warmth and musicality to the precision and detail of his extremely fresh electronic style and sound. Includes a remix of the Sounds From the Ground classic, Triangle.
"A sci-fi matrix of elevated dreaming, neo-electro dub and mesmerizing textures."

Endorsed and supported by Native Instruments Software and powered by M-Audio!"

1. Leaving Babylon: warm pads and filtered keys open, a dubbish bassline and solid chill beat provides framework for big sound. delayed percussion elements give space and quick notes move the song along at an easy going pace. many layers swirl beneath. emotive sweeps define the feeling of the track, laid back and serious. there is much detail put into the build and breakdown, creating a growing sense of intelligence. a bit of glitch adds a grit that tightens the grip. "look within... from the place within where your soul begins" sweet vocal effects.
2. Prophetic Sines: delicately crafted sounds generate ideas and sense of landscapes scrolling off in all directions. arpeggiated sounds form melodies i cannot effectively describe. A great stuttering vocal sound humanizes, and another highly modulated voice sings songs to the cosmos, setting the track up for deep headspace jamming. crunchy and crispy percussions, xylophones and bells fill the track with frequency!
3. Triangle (retriangulated): this remix of a classic Sounds from the Ground track brings back memories of couches and headphones way back in like, 1996?! the new version has the bluetech flavor, but enough of the original sound to make any old school ambient listener remember. the xylophone melody is light and airy, the delay and synths form a soft cushion while the round dub bass rolls with fat style. nice work with all elements coming together in proper homage to the original.
4. Rubicon: rolling percussions and warmth, burbling bass and funky lead skanks form the backbone of this journey, a sense of play, some very slick drum work. building and growing more complex and joined by some handdrums, sounds like the bass is morphing and getting ready. the harpsichord like lead makes for an ethnic feeling, like some arabian or egyptian casbah? some great breakdowns and builds, waves of delay, all instruments joining in a scintillating ride upward.
5. Prayers for Rain (dub mix): phased gently, with dope fat dub, a sexy female voice pad and a jazz organ form a heady space. some nice keyboard playing, like fingers gliding over the keys, loungey and groovin. theres a very stoney feel to this, many sounds layered beneath, intelligent. the keys get a bit edgy and start taking off as the swirlys in the back start percolating. the dub bassline pushes the warbling layers deeper into a den filled with smoke.
6. White Magnesia: a piano forms a moody scape as slippery percs fill in, dropping a pulsing bass with reverbed belltones. a tweaked lead starts strumming as voice pads come in. the break starts kickin harder with some funky synth work. sliding on a glossy surface, springy!
7. 7th Phase Dub: very smart dub rolling a big spliff with many percussion sounds filling in all the slots. a classic reggae skank and glitchy gurgles. a tremolo organ comes in to sing a melancholy song for us, telling tales and spinning little twist-ups. a very nice acoustic guitar comes in and the track starts to warm up, and builds up to where the flute can cleanse the air with its drifting melody. the breakdown involves some serious construction, every single sound finding its true purpose in life, some great emotion coming through once all elements have thier turn at the front in a very intricate piece.
8. Burning Waters: a darker drone, another crisp backbeat, with sixteenths all over the place, fracturing sounds off with delay and leaving trippy trails all over the room. growing unfolding goo! female computers stutter, squishy sounds are amplified, warm and bubbly. great drum work, like an octopus is playing, lots of little rolls and delays make for a very shifting groove, theres lots going on even though my head is bobbing slowly. it goes away leaving wisps of smoke only to come back offering another hit when you thought the joint was finished.
9. Mezzomorphic: a crunchy break and some sucking backwards feeling, deep bass and waters flowing around you. wet and color changing liquids are oozing in from the wall, making the air buzz with anticipation, the fluid is reshaping itself into a serpentine machine dub. things start to speed up, or at least the sounds are starting to gang up and come at you in a hyperspace arpeggio stagger. i think i drank too much, the floor is moving? then it all gets sucked back in quickly, leaving us with a breathing sitar? tension begins to build, raising hairs on my neck and the drums kick just that extra bit harder as all the liquid sounds are now compartmentalized. whoosh!
10. Desperate Ends: a fresh break and slide bassline and more of the great squiggles and percs! somewhere underneath the percs and fat pads theres a tabla singer cut up into tiny pieces harmonizing with the symbiotic instrumentation. arpeggi-layers transport my head-ship further and further upward into the ioposphere, i am left floating. the light changes to a warm purple lavalamp and the lounge vibe is deep.
11. Cliffdiving: a piano is played nostalgically, leaving us with an emotional warmth reminding me of blankets and safe places we can open our hearts, trusting the universe to protect us.

favorites: 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10
rating 9/10 great debut! cant wait to hear more.... check it out if you havent!

Theres a hint of old Shpongle in this with a dry electronica edge that gives it a modern feel. This one will def. be one of the albums of the year that will live in my player....thanks bluetech

Psygirl,

Well, this album just came out in September which wasn't that long ago. There should be something new soon however. I'm talking to a few people about the next round of tracks... more soon.
