Am I the only one who is starting to see a global trend of popular music bein' mixed with Asain {Indian} Music? especially in dance music. For those of you who don' kno what bhangra is I'll give a quick explanation:

Bhangra simply put is a word used to describe both a dance and a type of music, however for this post I'm reffering to the style, it's growing in popularity in many areas of the world, it's sung in punjabi {Sometimes hindi} and originated from the Punjab region {now located between India and Pakistan} as a traditional folk dance. what that means for you:

If you've ever heard the Rischie Risch mix of Brittany Spears - Me Against the music; that beat...is Bhangra , another example of it in popular music is Jay-z's "Beware of the boys" Which remixed Punjabi Mc's "Mundian To Bach Ke". Bhangra is very much built for dance so if you have never heard any, try it! If you're not afraid..!!

I think the "indian" fashion is global.. not only in music nowadays !

I live in a 20 000 inhabitants town and since this year we also have our hindi restaurant !           .

Swami is a duo well known for their bhangra remixes in example..

Their song "Disciples" on a Select Cuts compilation ("from Nation") is quite nice           .

Ive heard a lot of Bhangra beats being played at Chillout stages here in the US. If you remove harsher vocals I think it fits in very well with the world music and chillout scene.

Check Badmarsh&Shri,Nitin Sawheni,Bobby Fricton & Nehal, Shiva Sound System and Tabla Beat Science. Great bhangra inflences there.

I've blended bhangra elements with all sorts of electronic music that I've created...you can check out these various tracks at www.radiohiro.com for free:
-Bhangra Massive
-Punjammy
-Lightness Darkness
-Happy Birthday I Love You

BTW, where does world music start and stop as a regional definition? I'm kinda in the camp that Bhangra, from a far off perspective, might fall into some type of world music category.

you are right. To most americans, at least, if they heard Bhangra they wouldn't identify it as such...it would be grouped in as 'world music'

What do you call this music thats a fusion between Bhangra and hip hop? I recently bought a compilation from Water Music called "Bombay Beats" http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:yqj97i74g77r and its totally turned into an anthem cd for me. The first track which is from Feroz Khan just makes me want to dance my ass off!
