Trance ABC... what happened to individuality and to discover things for yourself? Thats the way you learn things and create your own sound

IMO there's a bit too many "manuals" floating around here.

Ehrm... If you don't like the tutorials, don't read them ? If you think you have an advantage by not reading them, don't read them. You are an individual, you don't have to read them, be creative

HandA, can you please tell us how you started to make music? Did you just open Logic or Cubase or whatever one Sunny Monday morning and come up with some magic tunes?
All of us have to start somewhere brother and tutorials such as these help us make that start. Is that not so?

Individuality as far as music goes will come with time when i know what the fuck i am doing! If i have no clue then who is going to put me in the right direction? If no one is going to tell me what i am doing wrong, how am i to know what i am doing wrong?

Also, reading from manuals is also a form of learning, just as fucking around on a synth! I don't see any problem with that.
Instead of commenting on every little thing, why don't you try and help people like us? You probably don't give a rats ass but Please O Please, if someone is offering a helping hand i don't understand what your problem is! How many people have you heard of who have released music overnight? You should know better than anyone that music is not made in one night, it takes a lot of hardwork, dedication, patience and perseverence, no?
So, i don't undertsand WHY you think that this one tutorial will bring out another GMS or ASTRIX? Are you Jealous or something that help is so readily available to us?

Not all of us are priviledged enough to work with big artists, or go to a sound engineering schools, or music shool or anything like that. All we have are forums like these and friends who work for each other, helping each other. You think that is bad???

Finally, this thread is almost like 6 months old, when i saw it top of the list this morning, i thought WOW, great another pointer!! open the thread to the last page and guess what...Its HandA again without anything! Why did you have to bring this topic up again if you had absolutely NOTHING to add apart from the sarcasm!

Now, why don't you tell us how YOU think a beginner should go about learning about sound and music?

Lets say i come to you and say,

"HandA, i want to make music, i have no previous knowledge. I love the music so much and want to make something myself, can you please tell me where to start?"

So HandA, with the all the experience and immense knowledge that you seem have, what would you say to me?

A child won't learn to swim by pure explanation. But if you throw it into the water without an explanation it will drown. I think it's both necessary, explanations of experienced people and own practical expieriences.

Personally I don't understand these defences against tutorials. It depends on how you use them. The more things you learn the more you will be able to create your own style later.

To me, learning from an expierienced person is like getting an initiation (in an almost spiritual meaning).           www.myspace.com/mentris

To put an end to all those "how to make a bassline", I've decided to make this illustrated tutorial. Hope you enjoy it.
This is by no means..............

Ok that's it
I hope you learned from it, and use this only as a basis to develop your own techniques - using this alone won't get you the perfect bassline.

He made it clear this was a starting point. at the beggining and the end.
