I think according to what you are looking for the Ultimae label would be a good place to start.

Check out for example, H.U.V.A. Network - Distances, very good           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

well, it was a lil offbeat for my ears, had notin to do with the quality of music.was lil bit like a movie soundtrack, more symphonic.
but it turned out to be nice either way..

It is a serious list here of atmospheric albums for sure.
But, according to me, The KLF "Chill out" is the greatest album I've ever heard.

wowow, man! i wouldn't call these two "atmospheric ambient"
the first one is very rare and darkish dark ambient from former member of black metal band. the dark journey. might be too noisy for the author of this topic.
the second one from Vangelis is new age music, like Tangerine Dream as well.

my 2 cents to the cup of "spacey ambient":
albums of John Serrie. you should really listen to his music.
some albums from italian guy Vidna Obmana, especially his collaboration project with Bass Communion called Continuum.
good luck!           last.fm/user/jyxx/

'tremor' by Vidna Obmana is awesoem, very innovative.
okay...ive heard john serrie's 'midsummer century' ,'and the stars go with you' both great albums, but they're both beatless...could you give me any more john serrie recommendations?

peace
