I will ask what is best, not what someone likes, but what it's the best from people using these synths:
What's the best synth for bass from your working experience with the: VIrus TI, Future Retro Revolution, Evolver, Mopho/Tetra.
I own them all ....but.... it's a big but...
Even though I made some full on like basslines...they tend to be the same and not very rich timbrally like the ones heard on other tracks.. I know what's the basic theory about saw wave, envelopes, eq and compression... still...
Thanks! and sorry for a endless topic:))) |

if you own all of them.. surely it is up to you to decide which is best? they all have their merits. experiment a ton.. no one can tell you how to best use your tools. |

sento mate, you have a bunch of very nice sounding and versatile synths. take your time playing and programming them to identify their strongest and weakest points according to the music you want to make.
No matter what one will say about, for example the Virus for trance basslines, someone else will say the opposite as it may of may not appeal to the style of music they want to make.
For example some people will say vb-1 is amazing, whilst some will say it sucks and that people need to get their ears cleaned....etc.
You are in a very happy position, to have all these synths in fornt of you, so stop wasting time asking what others think, especially when most of them (including my self as I never had a go at the Tetr4) have never even touched all of the synths you mention.
Software is good for bass, hardware is good for bass, you just need to learn to program in both realms and stop listening to what others assume what is better.
The internet is as good a source of information as it is bad. There were people that were saying the Virus is not good for 16th trance bassline because the oscillators were not stable. What do you say to someone who has found the fountain yet can't figure out a way to drink the water?
thinking back, one of the most exciting times I had in the studio, was when I got my first analog synth (the Doepfer modular) and all I was doing for two years was patching in cables and reading up manuals to understand subtractive synthesis, thinking about what module I was going to get next in order to get a sound I could not have otherwise, blown away more and more with everyday that passed by at the sounds that synth was spiting out.
Take your time, enjoy your self and synth programming, and all the answers will present them selves when you are able to see them with your own eyes.
Peace out.

well the bass sound is mostly about how you make it sit in the mix. you could have the fattest bass synth ever, but if it gets muddied up by other things in the mix, it won't matter that the source is good...
freeware-wise, some cool free synths that can make awesome bass are TAL-Noisemaker, Tyrell N6, and also Charlatan. |
