i bought this one yesterday, the special
edition with "the otherness" bonus material.
a very strange album for the guys from future sound of london. if you compare "papua new guinea" or "mountain goat"
with the tracks on this album, you will find
no resemblence in style. this is more psychedelia/pop/rock than electronic music.

i like this release for the music itself but
also bacause it shows that some artists have
the balls (and the interest) to change their
sound radically.

respect in the past and now

This is a one amazing album. I reviewed it some time ago in the chill-out section.

This is like old wine, always getting better.
I definately like this one over anything they released before under any of their aliases. And i am a big FSOL fan.
Get it! Wicked cover art and amazing music.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

What's this amorphous andrygonous thing anyway? I can't see any mention of it on my cd. It just says future sound of london.

It's another edition...
There's FSOL - Isness ,
and there's FSOL presents Amorphous Androgynous - The Isness ,
and there's FSOL presents Amorphous Androgynous - The Isness & The Othherness , and I don't know what more...

I think we are referring to the latter...
Amorphous Androgynous is their alter ego...
(see 1993, Tales Of Ephidrina)

I have the FSOL presents Amorphous Androgynous - The Isness.
A totally 60's 70's psychedelia album (really does little to expand from this though we 're talking about a great production), nothing like their previous ambient works... A "samplerdelic cosmic rock opera", as they prefer to call it. It contains guitars, sitars, strings and 'real' songs. A side project with 1997-2002 work material, wich I think it has much to do with their personal influences - you can find The Verve, Pink Floyd or maybe Led Zeppelin, The Mello Hippo Disco Show is a good example and the Doors keyboards maybe on the Isness-, from the Orb era to even Gary Cobain's trip in India...
Apart from the known (Jimi Hendrix guitar) The Lovers which is known from their previous works,
personally, I find Osho just excellent!
I like Her Tongue Is Just A Jelly Fish and Hide Tide On The Sea Of Flesh much also...

I don't know about the Otherness (haven't listened to it yet) but this could easily become a classic...           Minds are just like parachutes. They only work when they are open. :)

Ok, thanks. So the Isness & The otherness has some bonus tracks, but what is the difference between FSOL - isness and FSOL presents Amorphous Androgynous -isness? The tracklists look exactly the same. Is it just different name&cover with same music? Seems a bit pointless to release same stuff under different names (unless its just a marketing gimmick or something).

not just some bonus tracks. it's a double
cd with a disc full of variations (some of
them are better than the originals).

one complaint: the cover sucks big time!!!
i had it for one (!) day and it broke. and
i'm not a sloppy guy, i take very good care
of my cds. there is this plastic mechanism
that allows both cds to pop out at the same
time... a great idea but very poorly made.
it rips easily. be aware

Well not exactly the same...

FSOL - The Isness
TRACKLISTING:
1. Elysean Feels
2. The Mello Hippo Disco Show
3. Goodbye Sky (Reprise)
4. Osho
5. The Galaxial Pharmaceutical
6. Yes My Brother
7. Go Tell It To The Trees Egghead
8. Divinity
9. Guru Song
10. Her Tongue Is Like A Jellyfish
11. Meadows
12. High Tide On The Sea Of Flesh
13. Goodbye Sky

FSOL Present Amorphous Androgynous - The Isness
TRACKLIST
1. The Lovers
2. The Isness
3. The Mello Hippo Disco Show
4. Goodbye Sky (Reprise)
5. Elysean Feels
6. Go Tell It To The Trees Egghead
7. Divinity
8. Guru Song
9. Osho
10. Her Tongue Is Like A Jellyfish
11. Meadows
12. High Tide On The Sea Of Flesh
13. The Galaxial Pharmaceutical

I believe there must be like two accidental releases for Isness...

And FSOL present Amorphous Androgynous - The Isness & the Otherness is a double cd release as FrankFurther said.           Minds are just like parachutes. They only work when they are open. :)

hmm... my cd actually has the latter track list even though it just says FSOL (now that I looked more carefully there is a mention of Amorphous Androgynous in the inside sleeve. There is no mentinon of it on the outside though)... Oh well. It's a mystery.

there are at least 3-4 different versions of the Isness. One easy way to differentiate the versions is to see how long the track Galaxial Pharmaceutical is on your cd. If it's ~15 minutes long, you have the older version. If it's a lot shorter, you have the newer. The new one is what you get in the Isness/Otherness combo, which I personally like more: it feels more mixed down, and is somewhat less energetic but with better flow (with the exception of the shorter Galaxial which isn't as epic).

Still, regardless of what version you have, it's an absolutely excellent cd, hopefully destined to be just as classic as FSOL's older work.
