ive experimented using the sidechain feature on the gate and filter, its handy for stuff occupying the same freq range, when you bring in another instrument. Also it can add character to the mix adding something of a 'bumpy' feel in an otherwise uniform sound.
As for Max for Live;
I LOVE THE PROGRAM CHANGE KNOB
THE ML185 RULES along with everything Monolake made
neur0 rules too, basically its an Audio Damage Axon clone
Axis Mundi's tools are also nice
cant forget MIDI Quantize
and for us who cant use Automap theres RockBottom
the open/close group device is handy too
various timers come in handy
the Nwdlbots set is a neat thing too
also the 303 emu CK.acid is pretty good

Max for live is the shit.
I always wanted "global LFOs" in ableton, like a LFO that was external to your VSTs and ableton devices that could affect multiple parameters from different tracks all using the same controls.
Well now you can do that. In the latest version of Max for live there is an "LFO" device in the Max Audio Effect folder and it is fucking great.
My first experiment with it was to map it to the Time value of a Ping Pong delay set to Repitch mode, crazy tape delay mayhem!
Super super useful device

If you do a hefty amount of audio processing with consolidation, freezing, etc at the end of a project you will have a ton of large, useless files in your samples folder.
Before you mix your track save your project into a new folder and do 'collect all and save'.
Then delete your old project folder. My project folders are usually between 4-8 gigs before this process, and usually around 2-3 gigs afterwards.
After a while this space adds up!

Wow...i just got a really impressive result out of putting two Saturator instances on the master, first one in Sinoid Fold with +6 drive -6 output at ~15% wet, and then another one on Analog clip with +6 drive -6 output and 100% wet.
When I mix I aim for -6 db on the master fader, but often there are still peaks and whatnot, so I'll often 'cheat' by putting in a limiter or a saturator on analog clip with +6 drive -6 output to eat the peaks and keep the mix at -6 before I put it through Ozone.
But damn, the two saturators made the mix really solid, gave it a much deeper fuller body. Going to start using parallel saturation more in the future for sure.

Been really digging live's arpeggiator device for melodic inspiration these days. As a basic example, I took a couple 1bar length notes in a scale and pattern that I liked and set the arp to 1/16th, ~50% gate, and set the shift to Minor and in the root note of my track. Then set it to 5 steps and -2 for distance.
Then, I created a new midi track, set the input of the new midi track to the track that the arpeggiator is on, arm the new midi track and then hit record and play at the beginning of the arp pattern. Now instead of long notes I have all the 1/16th MIDI notes in a new clip - and unlike in the arp I can move notes around exactly as I want them to avoid the loopy and rigid feel of a lot of arp sequences.
Also happened upon a fun crossfader trick for arp sequences....in the track I'm doing now, I have a little melody that comes before the kick/bass, and I wanted to do one long note before the drop but then afterwards have the arp come in from the same synth....but going from long note to arp sounded too quick.
So, I bounced the long note to audio, then bounced that same long note arp'd. Then I cut out the second half of the first clip and the first half of the second clip, put them next to each other on the same track, and crossfaded them together. Sounds good, man! You can also get a lot of cool stuff out of making a copy of an audio clip, reversing the copy, then chopping it up like above and crossfading it into itself.

Like stretchy laser noises? Well I do, and they're stupid easy to make with ableton's Frequency Shifter unit. Chuck it on a melody or pad or pretty much anything really and crank the Amount up to max with a ramp up or down LFO, 100% wet, and then automate the frequency and Rate parameters from their max down to their min value using nice curves as a starting point. Now add in more interesting automation variety along the way within Frequency and Rate and Phase for weirdness and added laser awesome.
these sounds also react very well to audio processing tricks. Get a nice couple bars of laser action then freeze and flatten it down to audio and get in there and start chopping sections up and warping them, transposing them, reverse and stutter etc. sounds good.
