sandman were ok but they were more into goa trance.also I forgot to mention BOTFB.
from what I c they are pretty much responsible for the dark sound also!

Well - Actually things started turning dark mostly with the Spirallianz "Blastfood" album, and stuff like Paps "Vibes from the other side" / "Digital Ache".
There was a definately trend to go darker and darker at that point + more aggressive.
One of the samples from Sandmans "Witchcraft" album is "It looked like a cross between a spider, and your worst nightmare" - And as such that track excemplified a lot of the following dark / evil / diabolic trance that we would see.
I think that much of the Psy Tech Trance stuff was far darker then BOTFB (I even think the "Twin Sharkfins" album was rather uplifting
But, to get back to my point - Purely psychedelic trance without dark attitudes came before dark psy, and dark psy builds upon that branch of Goa/Psy trance.
I will agree that it lends stuff from the "Dark Goa" if you want to call it that (Sandman, Xenomorph etc) What it lends is the attitude in the music (dark, evil, scary, diabolic) and combines it with psychedelia & aggression as experienced very much with the epic track Paps "Vibes from the other side".
Dark Goa + Dark Psy Tech + Purely Psychedelic Trance == Dark Psy.

in my city in brazil..
some djs of upliftin' and tech trance.. says that psytrance(dark, full on) is not trance..
i think that thay are are stupid.. =P
