The only problem with counterpoint is using it in conjunction with your own music, so trying to bend many rules and incorporating as many species you can, if you go first species all along, it will sound dull, little syncopation, different motions, some pauses and actual real world producing situations, I mean it’s not set in stone one artist should use counterpoint by book, bend it until it sounds interesting, it’s better than going full on unison or hoping for some happy accident.

Just use the basics of counterpoint... i.e. make sure that the intervals are complementary where they are supposed to be. Then change as required. |

You can get same result in 5 minutes or 1 hour, depends do you know what are you are doing actually, it’s time saver and opens up wider range of possibilities, than relying on happy accidents which is like wearing t shirt every day praying that rain don’t fall that day and than winter comes and you are screwed, in other words, you start getting writer blocks and opening threads about arrangements, structures and storytelling, it’s all connected and we all use it, attentional or accidentally, difference is actual labor and knowledge behind it.

It does not have to be classical, but it often becomes classical when you add irregular intervals on tones. It is like the good ol' "eastern vs western music doctrine". Western musicians often think quarter tones sound "false", and eastern musicians often think the same of semi tones (and well tempered ones in particular) of the same reasons.
One of the main purposes with trance (as opposed to house music in general) is the purpose of producing trance-like states in conciousness. In my opinion, counterpoints effectively reduces this effect by enforcing alpha states and rapid analytical abilities. |
