this piece of equipment got my attention when i saw alex paterson us one of these in a making of-documentary. it looked a bit silly but as a serious fan of sampling also very conveniant as it's such a small digital recorder. it couldn't be crap if mr. paterson was using it, could it? some months later i was browsing the net and stumbled yet again upon the h2. now i did some basic research and i was positively surprised by the simple work flow and quality results. i got a serious hankering and found one 2nd hand for a even more affordable price. i just bought it a couple of hours a go and did some testing and man i dig it... a lot!
i'd give the h2 a platinum award for value for money any time. only cons i can think of at the moment is the cheapish plastic casing and the average push keys that could've been a little bit bigger. 9/10!

I got this AWESOME little device after I saw Ott chat it up here on isratrance in the chill section.
So fucking awesome.
Not only does it work GREAT for field recordings...it is perfect for recording stuff on your computer as well.
Before I got the Zoom, every time I wanted to rip a piece of audio out of a movie, or something on the net....I'd have to take the original file (if i had it), convert it, throw it into ableton, chop it up...
now I just plug the zoom into my headphone output of my audio interface and hit record a couple times and boom! Super easy.
I love this thing.
I really enjoyed getting a recording of the self-checkout girl at the store last night. So looking forward to people dancing to the 'put the item in the bagging area!' sample

Recording the music + the audience with the built in mics or recording just the music via the mixer??
The mixer method should work perfectly.
The music + audience would be tricky, I haven't tried it yet. However it does have a 4 channel stereo mode where it records a stereo signal from the front and rear mics so that you could have music in front and crowd in back or vice versa.
Not sure how well recording loud EDM would come through via the built in mics...haven't tried that yet.

i think it'll be a challenge for any recorder but if you have a chance to test it i'd be interested to know how it went. the h2 has 3 mic gain presets (hi/mid/low) + manual level adjustments so if you go to 4cha mode, flip the mic gain to low and crank down the recording levels you might get some decent recordings of the music and the crowd around you.
the best option for recording music would most def be straight from the main mixer via the h2's line in.
this little piece of equipment is just superb:
4 built in mics (with 4 different mic pattern possibilities), line in, ext mic in and line out, built in tuner and metronome, file converter (wav>mp3) + some basic sample editing options like dividing, normalizing, locutting...

yeah...I've always been wanting some cool field recordings of noisy environments, people laughing, random discussions...
I just dumped my recent recordings into ableton and I was blown away by my recording I did last week of the pizza place down the road from work in the middle of the day...crystal clear and the stereo field is awesome.
have you done much outside recording Outolintu? Has the included wind cover been enough to cancel out the noise/hiss?
