Artist: Zen Mechanics & Motion Drive
Title: London Landscapes Single
Label: Furthur Progressions
Format: MP3/Wave digital download
Released: September 2009

Review:

In the spring a new label saw the light of day. Furthur Progressions was the name, and behind this new player on the progressive scene were the two british DJ’s Bedouin and Hamish, who have played on major festivals like Boom, Universo Paralello and Fusion. The first release was the compilation “London Landscapes”, and it featured artists like Ace Ventura, Liquid Soul, Dickster and Shadow FX – very impressive for a first release, and it generally had a high quality, which is why I consider it one of the best progressive psytrance releases this year.

Initially the release should have contained a track by Zen Mechanics and Motion Drive, but it got cut from the tracklist at some point, and now it’s here as a digital download release including a remix by Visua.

01. Zen Mechanics & Motion Drive - Outwards [136 BPM]
I consider both Zen Mechanics and Motion Drive among the best in the new breed of psychedelic trance artists, and both have succeeded in combining pounding, tight full on basslines with more fluid, hypnotic sounds of progressive trance. “Outwards” is just that; the bassline and groove sounds very Zen Mechanics-ish, while the mellow, classy morning elements seem to be Motion Drive’s touch. A real beauty of a track, and one that makes me wish it was summer again, so I can play it outdoors.

02. Zen Mechanics & Motion Drive - Outwards (Visua Remix) [136 BPM]
The Mexican progressive trance artist Visua is given the tough task to follow up with a remix of an already amazing track, and even though he doesn’t quite match the same quality as the original, it does have great potential. The bassline isn’t quite as distinct and in-your-face, but the whole track seems a bit more organic, groovy and hypnotic, and there are some extra melodic elements towards the end that really works well with the elements from the original. Good remix.

Bottom line:

Furthur Progressions have really released a great follow-up for their first release. This EP is one of the best digital download releases this year when it comes to progressive psytrance, and one can only wish that both Furthur Progressions, Zen Mechanics, Motion Drive and Visua will follow up with more in the future. Two great, hypnotic and energetic progressive tracks for less than 4˝ Euro is a great deal as I see it.

Recommended release.

I must be in complete disagreement, the Visua remix has the same quality of the original track, the difference is that the remix don't use the bassline "in your face" as a main component compared with the original. His remix as pr0fane said is much organic with great combinations of sounds in a groovy smart way. It's like all the pieces are just in the right place in the remix.

The original track is that kind of those collaborations that you can apreciatte the essence of both projects, the review by pr0fane says it all, great track.

I can call a tie here? Both tracks has a lot to offer. I suggest to get 3 Euros and get them asap.

I think the three artists are among the best in the new breed of psychedelic scene, all of them has been very consistent since their first release, quality infront than quantity infront!

Im looking forward about the next step of this label and hoping to have more releases of these artists among the ones from the first compilation, way to go Furthur.... Great review by the way.

I dug a lot in both tracks but for some special reasons my favorite is the Visua remix.

Furthur have done a wonderful job to pull this off and certainly a step forward after of their first compilation, which was fantastic by the way!

The label concept and their first compilation remind me some kind of a mixure of some of the scando and uk progressive stuff melted with that old label from japan "Groove Zone", the result is very chunky and hypnotic sometimes darker but overall having pumping basslines, fluffly flavors, without going too far, progressive grooves. Well done guys!
