RELEASE NOTES
Scheduled for release in September 2009, Atom Schmelter is the first release by the newly-formed European branch of One Foot Groove. The branch is currently busy with releases for D_Maniac and Haxirai.
Currently scheduled to play at the NYE Rezonance Festival, the release will give South African audiences the chance to hear him in advance.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Pedro Oliveira originally played drums as part of a two-man ska band called Skambalhota with Sergio Loren (vocals) for two years before the pair decided to expand their musical horizons and create a trance act; so, thus, Zaraus was born.
Since 2001, Pedro has assumed solo control of the project and has steered it into a direction all of his own, joining England's Sub-Atomic while playing in countries like England, Scotland, Spain and the Netherlands. He has since played at four editions of Universo Paralello, Transformation, Psycake, Sinergia Festival 2008 and Boom Festival 2008.
Zaraus joined One Foot Groove in 2009 and will be following his album release with tours in Portugal, Mexico, Brazil and South Africa, where he will be playing at the latter's well-known Rezonance Festival over New Year's Eve.

Zaraus – Atom Schmelter (1Ft Groove)
Zaraus is Pedro Oliveira from Portugal and gained his musical experience in a Ska Band as a drummer. Initially a two-man project, he and the vocalist started Zaraus in 1999. His first album is released on the South African label, 1Ft Groove with the excellent mastering of Matthew de Nobrega (Artifakt). The tracks are an eclectic mix of sounds that move between melodic, some dark and mostly hard. Subtle hints of humour are carefully placed and discovering them was fun. Nine delicious tracks of banging psychedelic trance are dished up in large servings. Although most of the tracks are certainly going to become dance floor favourites, my preferred is the last one. It contains the sound of a dentist drill (who would have thought that would work in a psy track?), great guitar and imagery of Cossacks doing their famous dance. The album also includes the Zaraus remix of “Obi Van Knob” by E-Jekt. Recommended.

Zaraus (aka Pedro Oliveira) of Lisbon, Portugal, blasts onto the scene
respresenting the new Alliance of One Foot Groove, with his debut
album, "Atom Schmelter". A sound that can be described as "speedy,
animated, punchy, with a touch of Old Skool / Goa melodies & formulas
while supplying new tricks and some fresh ideas, that tell a story.
Its aggressive but without being dark or random... Fullon beats with a
psychedelic, hardcore, desert storm AND hypnotising, morning sound!"
("phew")!
Some of the basslines used (e.g. "Dumbo Ganesh) reminded me somewhat
of Ajja Leu. Big, rolling and Psychedelic!
Crisp mastering, engineered by the ever amazing Matthew de Nobrega
(aka Artifakt) of Timecode mastering, puts the cherry on the cake!
I find it very exciting and encouraging to see such a variety of
artists coming out of Portugal, and Pedro has made His mark with this
album. A featured remix of E-jects "Obi Van Knob" portrays some Decent
rolling atmospheres, while other artists featured are friends Kystos
(aka Haxirai) and Linhuz (aka Klyze).
My favourite track has to be the collaboration between the friends at
the end of the album with the dancefloor filler "Ska Zappellinni" -
sure to get folk bouncing on the dancefloors! Followed closely by
"Monster Balls" - Bound to get the dust flying!
One might argue that in general the tracks sound very similar, but I
feel a truely unique Sound has been achieved by this young artist and
we can expect to hear a lot more from him. Go grab a copy and SCHMELT
your brains!
