yer i would definitly like to learn more about phase plugins, the only thing i know about phase, is the cancelation trick.
I always found the phase button on EQ's rather strange, but good. I definitly want to do some research about this.

volume is always important not only for the bass_and the best rule is to intercept as low as possible!!! _ _ _ (i think your 85dB SPL is a bit too loud!) anyway after 2min of a level over 60dB your ears start to acclimatize very quick and your frequency spectrum decreases also,so that you tempt to increase the volume more and more_fatal mistake- what you should do is to set up 2 fix volumes before the session- so that you can do an A-B comparison any time...sorry for the offtopic but i wanted to give my input on this important issue-thats what they teached me/if you prefer to work "louder" do it, as long as your mix on the next day still sounds good for your ears-everything is fine/everything you´ve learned is in fact just learned;not necessarily true

Ummm.. i'm not sure I agree entirely with that... this whole hardware software shit really fucks me off... Who gives a toss, you can create incredible basslines with only vst FX (it'll surprise you how many pro artists do)... but then you can also make incredible ones with hardware...
It makes no difference (apart from that the knobs are palpable)...

For me, the most important thing is work hard on the VST.

If u really get a good sound from VST, u dont need eqs or other stuff (or need just for a few adjustments). U can make it very powerfull and clear just tweaking.

Decay and the Filter ate the most important, in my opinion.

Best regards,

i use the old vb-1 hehe
and my advice is make it simple. just try to get a linear frequency response (you can accomplish that using a frenquency analyzer and eq..) and then work from there..
also imho without a good kick that fits the bassline it will not sound that good...
but anyway i think the most important is, try & try & try & try until you get it.. it's hard, but when you get it, you get it all ;D

first u make the best u can in the vst, and then u should "clean it up" with some good eq.
i think the bass on itsa own meens nothing cause it all depends in the simbiose with the kick
