Don't know if it's a popular known trick, but it works for me, lol...
And no it doesn't screw around with the characteristics of the monitors at least on mine, it just removes some of the sub.
... In this one i have 21 bass traps which i made from rockwall and it's way more efficient then any foam, and filling my room with foam from this point on will only deaden the room. And the problem isn't really the room, the room sounds sweet as hell, it's the monitors that just make to much bass (for my taste).

I could tell those are hand made bass trapps.
I watch some DIY 'make yourself' bass trapps vids on youtube.
21 you say,, that's a lot of work. I want to make my own also, but it worries me that you still want to block the bass ports, even with all that bass-traps.
At the moment my setup is in my bedroom. But if i get a studio room i'd make some traps like that and cover all the walls with thick carpets.

see it more as personal taste i don't really need to block the bass ports it sounds good anyway, i don't like to mix with a lot of sub cause at the end of the day you get a headache, specialy if you make psytrance...

Remy yap theres nothing better than rock wool i build my 10 panels with it and still have to make a few more but to work around the pain of having to build them again i used some foam to complement the absorption ratio of the few i already have, good you got it all covered . A dead room for psytrance production is ok, for recording live instruments its not... anyway cool studio you got.
