War of the Worlds. Amazing camera work and stunning sound yet a plot as thin as Kate Moss on Heroin.
Lord of the Rings. Same as above regarding the production and everything but really really boring and too complex for me to enjoy. I know I am the only one in the world that didn't enjoy this one, whatever.. I think i've found the cure for Insomnia whenever it strikes me. That and a Michael Bolton Unplugged CD.
Transformers. Same as one but with very small amount of special FX and too much of the usual Steven Spielberg Father and Dad interaction.
AI. Decent minus movie that really hits the bottom with the last scene. Worst closing scene ever.
Sin City. I love Robert Rodriguez's visual style on this movie. It's really unique and does wonders for a plotless slasher with many many A-list actors that overact in about every scene. I know that it's a comics movie but too much is too much.
Batman 3 & 4. No words needed here...
Jackie Brown. Tiresome and meaningless flick where Robert De Niro doesn't act at all and Samuel L Jackson just being a moron on cocaine.
Black Snake Moan. Christina Ricci's boobs. That's pretty much all the movie has to offer.
Scanner Darkly Headache. That's what i got from all the pseudo cool graffics
Everyone in the world is doing something without me |

oooooo..
war of the worlds
lord of the rings
transformers
ai
sin city
(rest didn't see)
I actually like all those films. For sure it's not top of the art but it's good for "disconnect and spend another 1.5 hours of your life watching 1-time-movie" ;-)
Anyway, there are so many films that i didn't like that i hardly recall the names ;-) Well, may be later...
The only one i can recall right now is :
The Wicker Man (with Nicolas Cage)
  I may rise, but I won't shine ... |

I have to agree with AI being shit. What was supposed to be Kubric's final work was taken over by Spielberg - you can actually see where one ends and the other begins plot-wise (kid telling the statue he wants to be a real boy, fade to black... perfect ending, and then comes Spielberg with his cute aliens and feel-good ending). What if Kubric did it instead of that asshole?? One of the bigger "what if"'s of the movie world.
Try Underworld Evolution for one of the worst vampire movies ever - and this is for someone that likes pointless violence in his movies.
And of course, the Superman movies. Each and every one of them ever was total shit, and the new ones are absolutely the same.

Actually - the visual style is an EXACT copy of the comics on which this movie is based. Rodriguez just tried to stay loyal to the original, and he did that brilliantly. I think that people either like pointless violence in movies (The Wild Bunch anyone?) or don't. I do, and I find this movie the greatest thing to hit the big screen since... well, last few years for sure. And bunching it up with other comic-book movies is probably just because you don't get the whole iconic/archtypical character structuring of comic culture. This is a league above crap like Batman 3&4 (and even Batman Begins). Comic book characters are not supposed to be 100% relateable, they're supposed to do the things normal people just... don't. That's why the 3rd X-Men and Spiderman movies sucked - they're cheap sci-fi, instead of the battles of Good vs. Evil that they are supposed to be. If anything - this movie should be compared to Kill Bill Vol. 1... and IMO, it doesn't fall short, just doesn't have a guy named Quentin listed in the credits to make people try and understand it.
BTW: the comic book writer of the Sin City comics is the #1 writer of comics in the 70s and 80s (now heading the Batman crew, if I remember correctly), and is responsible for 300 as well (based on a graphic novel he wrote, a movie in which he was also executive producer). Also the first writer of the Wolverine mini-series for Marvel, responsible for a lot of their character development and bringing a darker edge to the whole comic-book thing in the 80s. The guy is a legend in that.
And yes, I spent a few years as a kid in the US and was a hardcore comic-book nut until my parents bought me a SNES. http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222 |
