Actually the amount of possibilities while using the bitcrusher makes the sound richer and I don't find too much of this effect on Astrix / Alien Project trax... Sure they use it but I am talking about much more crunch Space Ninja, + it doesn't have to be the last effect in the row and then there are a lot of possibilities to the sound u make...

Medirium, yes the Maelstorm is completely assignable and one of the most intricate features in it is it's rear panel and possibility of using it as a filter for a foreign sound.. Amazing instrument it is..           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

Ninja,
Astrix/Alien project work with Cuebase
so there's no way it's bitcrusher in their trax (although it sure sounds close).
and like U-Lee said there are lots of ways to innovate with it.

Other nice stuff to look for:

Opcode Vynil(DX) - Not alot to do with it in Psy music but otherwise a very cool vynil Effect

Waves L1/L2 UltraMaximiser(DX or VST) - When doing a bounce/mixdown try to put it on the Master

Delay Lama(VSTi) - Perhaps overused but the cute animation makes up for it

Mr. Hanky there is a bitcrusher fx in the ole good cubase.. It might not be as good as the logic one, but it does the job           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

Yuli - On the last Aztechno Dream album every track except the track with Christof has Cubase SX Bitcrusher effect on it. As for Astrix's Eye to eye album, i didn't hear it yet (shame on me) but all the Astrix tracks i've heard so far had this effect.
I'm not saying it's bad but i know for sure that i personally will try to avoid from it to sound like them.

BTW like i mentioned before Fruity loops has some really nice effects (Distortion) and Granulizer wich is really wicked.
And Waves plug-ins (Made in Israel btw) sre the best.

Say, Space Ninja...

Hypothetically, u r lead guitar in a rock band, so u wont do pentatonic scales ( they are definitely overused, aren't they? ) ? Ofcourse u will do pentatonics, it's the way you do things counts and not what u use in your tracks... And to come back to our little scene... 8 out of 10 artists use Nord of any kind - is that a reason not to use it?? ( Chemical Brothers have one and use it and u don't hear it in the way it is used in trance )

It's all matter of what u want to represent with your music. Everything fits - just use it in YOUR way           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

I'll just put my addition here: the A1 synth that comes with cubase. Put a phaser on it and you've got yourself some kickass sounds
