Hi,
we start thinking about a new liveact with ableton live. Now im searching for good tricks to bring our tracks (Cubase) to the live software. I tried to export all pattern to audiofiles, but this is really very much work!!

My second idea was, only to exort the mix groups. But in this way Im not able to contol enough.

Do you have any ideas to make it easyer?? Please let me know how do you use ableton live.

Important for us is, to make a real liveact with hardware and the live software.
If i want to play a track wich is only one wav file i can do djing

Thanks
Till

I would export them as audio snippets in whatever neccessary length for the riff/loop/part.

Then you rebuild the arrangement roughly by the part view or whatever they called it.
You know...not the one that looks like a normal cubase view.

Now you have a basic arrangement that you can step thru using a key on a keyboard or the enter key.
You can have some parts that only come in when you trigger them from a key/button/pad and some then forming a backgound whith an arrangement you can step thru either sequentially or again by some trigger.
You D1 could be a certain bridge for example.

The possibilities are endless, so it's really about what you feel comfortable with.
But I feel that the imagination is the limit pretty much with Live.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

that's what I was thinking to do in the first place, but then I found that I have to consider the fx I was using in the mix. so if I had a a loop, I had to export it more then once or discard the fx. a lot of work.
that's why I wanted to mix with Live in the first place with the arragment view, and skip the tedious export work. this way I'll get everything ready for session view.
I'm now thinking of an easier way, instead of exporting audio it might be better to export the midi. but that is only good for what was midi in the first place. I didn't tried it yet.

I tried to start working in it, because workflow wise I think it's brilliant software for producing as well.
But the sound is not as good as I would wish for, so after a couple of not so great sounding tracks I went back to logic.

Sure it's a lot of work to convert it, and if you want to do much live you need to practice quite a bit as well.

I would not like to run too much FX or instuments live though and would bounce as much as possible to keep it stable.
Just a live filter on some channels to tweak and one or two instruments.
To control the arrangement and trigger parts on top of that gives enough to control for me.
The rest have to be audio too feel a bit safer, at least with my laptop wich is getting a bit oldish by now           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

since a long time i am exporting every track i used to export in cubase for workflow-reasons into one mainfolder simply called "loops". i have done that because i thought one time you will need them all in one folder. now i have more than 50 loops in 24bit from 130 to 144 bpm, getting more and more permanently. the concept is just to preorder standart-workflows in your production that realisation of a liveset is easy later.
offcourse the loops are not enough to remix everyone of my trance live, but its very usefull without more spent energy.
i wouldnt export every line from cubase to ableton, i would take groups like different hihat-sets (maybe with the snare included), different fx-sets and different theme sets and different percussionsets. routing every line is much work and is also not very handable live. its all theory now but it think its the best rentable way to have good results without having too many of this not-creative-technican-work-hours in the studio. i also thinks its better and more transparent to play live with groups instead of muting/unmuting every track. cheers
