Kinda getting sick of the Reverbs Ive been using and want to find new ones. What are you favorite reverbs? Would be cool to break it down by what you use it for, i.e. fav reverb for percs, fav reverb for leads, etc..
Also, anybody use SIR, the free one?
Ive been looking at the Waves IR-1 too, it looks dope but seems realy slow.

If anyone has a small mixer/patchbay, and has access to an MPX-1 (got it for £250), or even a cheapo MPX-100 (got for £60!!!), try borrowing and using them.
Ahh...soft synths (especially through a nice pre/comp/EQ) can sound decent after all!

SIR from christian knufinke

freeware impulse responce converter. Can be used for much more then reverb (if you use an impulse responce from a compressor, it's a compressor,...).

My favorite because it's free and you can use the reverbs from famous machines like the lexicon 960 and the TC 4000 or 6000. Ofcourse it's not as flexible as those machines, but it's certainly the cheapest way to get their sound.

impulse responces are in fact a combination of 2 audio files. one with the dry sound (starter gun, beep with all freqs, popping balloon,...), and the resulting sound if you put it through a machine or when you use it in some kind of room (so with impulse responces you can use real spaces as reverb-effect). It will use those audio files to change the audio you send through the impulse responce converter in the same way that the original impulse responce changed (that's why the impulse responce needs to contain all frequencies, otherwise the algorithm doesn't know what to do with a frequency that's not present in the original impulse responce). It's an algorithm that exists since the 60s, but only now, with the power of the present computers it is possible to actually use the technique... It is not only used in music though, there are a lot of scientific applications for the algorithm too. It is because of the complexity of the algorithm that it's so heavy on the CPU...
