Both the digital download and CD will come out when they do (February). Anything else is - if anything - a way to get even closer to the artists and their process of making the album. Lyric sheets or even hanging out with them.

This is experiencing and exploring the music 2.0, at the mercy of the people rather than the potential nasty large record company (EMI Records type). These opportunities blow holding a plastic CD cover in your hand out of the water.

Are you concerned too little is left to the listener to figure out, in terms of the "mystery" of the process of making music and expressing art? Because that's an argument I think is valid.

Sort of, just simpler really. All that extra stuff to make it special, to lure the listener, the collector... dunno.... I don't like it. What's wrong with just a good album with good music to do the job? Isn't that the point?           ---------------------------------------------

I agree with Shahar ...

the whole pledgemusic model is interesting though... and consistent with the 1000 true fans approach. for some people it is not just about the music and they'll be willing to spend all sorts of cash...

It is a direct response to copying - trying to monetize stuff that can't be copied.

"Be in one of our videos £150 10 left " looks like Lady Gaga style, but anyways I'm looking forward for the album since everithing what those guys create is masterpeace!           _____________________

If you don't like this sort of model, then blame the pirates.

I think smaller labels have to use this model more and more to survive.            - The yeti loves to drink shnaps too, so he's like a real shaman... he, uhm, uh, if you want to contact him, you have to put some alcoholic offerings in front of the forest.

I'm not into blaming. I know quite well how things are. I'm running a label...

I still don't like it, and I think we (artists/labels/listeners/pirates/& others) should do something about it.

Unfortunately piracy boils down to individual accountability. That makes it hard to address. Advertising campaigns don't seem to do anything. (You wouldn't steal a car, would you?) So short of changing the distribution format to something extremely restrictive or groups of vigilante music supporters going door to door to force their way in and search for pirated content on hard drives*, how do you make the changes that reduce the need for labels/artists to have to take these sort of steps?

*Actually, this is a pretty entertaining idea IMO. There's a Monty Python sketch in there somewhere.

Better than fricken younger brother on your cell phone ring tone and backpack logo crap that you'd otherwise get if you choose your platform poorly.

All the "tickets" to simon's studio are gone. Just hanging out, kinda like fundraising. It's an awesome idea and diminishes the musical experience in no way whatsoever.           Goa Goa-trance & Psytrance parties in Oslo, Norway:

I hope it`ll be a musical experience (!) at all. Was really not satisfied with new songs at Ozora, but well, let`s see.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you concerned that the artists are "whoring" themselves by offering these things? Because then I can fully understand you, there is a fine line here.            - The yeti loves to drink shnaps too, so he's like a real shaman... he, uhm, uh, if you want to contact him, you have to put some alcoholic offerings in front of the forest.

That's the feeling I get with this pledgemusic model...

Possibly whoring. Some of those pledge items seem a bit of a stretch, but if it makes the difference between labels and artists continuing instead of saying "Fuck this. They'll only download it anyway..." is it not justifiable?

I think that the pledging model is interesting, but for me it would be enough, if the pledging would be only for the release of the album. All the other things are directing into some kind of popstar worship imo. Don't like cult about the persons behind the music.

On the other hand Simon doesn't seem to take it too seriously by himself if you read his quote from the twisted forum: "What about a blowjob from Benji? (Hmm… i should probably run that one by him, first… LOL )" http://www.twistedmusic.com/forums/viewthread/4179/P15/

Problem with that, is his fans will be taking it seriously. He better not mess around with that...
