Nice of you to say so but having just finished a five-week tour I'm SO happy not to be living out of a suitcase and dragging myself from airport to taxi to hotel to venue to airport... |

I think you just honestly expressed what a lot of people are inwardly feeling.
I think, whether you like the record or not, they should be applauded for having the balls to make the record they wanted to and not just churn out a paint-by-numbers fan-pleaser.

That has definitely been a huge aspect of why I appreciate the work of the Twisted label throughout the years...doing what they want to musically without clinging to genre limitations as so much of the rest of the scene has...
I suppose part of the reason that I was initially so against the new YB sound is that I have been continually amazed that a record label and a group of artists has been able to, with every single fucking release, completely blow me away and connect with me on such a personal level.
It's dissapointing to have that experience interrupted.
I wonder what changed Simon's mind about not wanting to listen to someone rabbit on about rubbish.
I much prefer your take on vocals/singing in the Mir album completely open to the listeners interpretation...
Do you still consider yourself part of the Twisted label ott? I know you've said you don't work with them much anymore as you live so far apart...

I've never thought of trance culture as "faintly comical" - but I suppose it does seem that way to outsiders.

I never imaged that trance producers wouldn't even consider going out to a party... |

Totally understandable, just feel like the biggest little city owes you one for the abysmal turnout when you were here last summer.

how about a "Younger Brother in Dub" album?

I seriously doubt it. Given the current direction, think more like "Younger Brother Acoustic / Unplugged." |

those two tracks that Yidam posted weren't that bad. I was expecting something way more terrible based on some responses in this thread. Still, though, this music is not for me.
My issue with not liking this vs. liking "flock of bleeps" is that everything I've heard from new YB has been so serious and dramatic sounding. the old stuff was fun, this is not fun. also i'd rather get punched in the balls than listen to coldplay, so there's that.
I think this will be really popular with at least a couple different scenes here in the united states. i think the festie/jamband/jamtronica crowd will probably dig this. I can also easily see the hipster indie rock people talking about this because its slightly more progressive than what they're currently listening to, but familiar enough so they won't be scared away.
If I were in simon or benji's shoes, I'd pretty much do the same thing (though it would sound a bit less sad and gray). and not just for the money (though some money would be nice). at the position they are in in their careers, they're kings of a miniscule niche genre, but feel that they have the talent and capability to be players on a bigger scale. they've already toured the world and all that. maybe they want to be in the position to work with talented people? If you've actually produced something that the average person has heard of, you've got a much better shot giving peter gabriel a ring and working out a track together.
Also, its a much better career move, which is something guys like that have to consider. How long will trance music last? Thats a debate for another section of this forum, but my guess is they don't want to go down with the ship and have to start bagging groceries at age 50 to pay for their kids' schooling because psy culture moved on to different music. Producing bands is not going to die, no matter what any raver says, so if you've got a reputation for that kind of production, you'll always be able to find work.
I'd maybe feel a little pissy if I gave them money for that kickstarter thing, but honestly, you all heard the last album. Its kind of ridiculous if you thought they were going to do something less mainstream for this album.
I wish them the best so one day i'll hear YB in the supermarket and say "i knew these guys' music way back when"

For all of u criticizing Twisted for doing a more commercial or mainstream album (whether that was their intention or just a muse is a different q), just remember the money earned from this album - and without a doubt there's gonna be plenty - will go into Hallucinogen 3. Simon promised he'll be working on it by the end of the year.
So just consider that for a while.

Bought the Deluxe Edition the other day and after a several listens it's really grown on me. The 3 extra tracks: Delina Did It, Crystalline (Acoustic Mix), Spinning Into Place (Acoustic Mix) and the two freely released remixes of Night Lead Me Astray and Shine make this a really good buy IMO - equivalent of a double CD.
Find it quite refreshing that they're exploring new areas with this incarnation, rather than remaining entrapped with their genre like many artists tend to do. It seems to work for the most part, with the exception of the odd track (Safety In Numbers is a bit cheesy IMO). The Coldplay references are off the mark though and make me cringe somewhat.
