good computer, good mixer, good sound card, good monitors.. good imagination also.. beyond that, sky's the limit.. really any equipment will do as long as you know how to (ab)use it.. there is no be all end all.. if you want to make crap get an MC-505 and use presets or Acid with a bunch of loop discs.. if you are serious, learn synthesis, get a Roland Juno (good synth for learners).. and branch out.. IMO Modulars are the best.. I have a MOTM/Wiard/Blacet modular... serious sound... |

korg is nice choice, but a very costy one. i'd suggest you to get a "virtual analog" synth in my opinion the most important is: 1) to get familiar with software (logic audio/nuendo/cubase/sonar) by playing with it and trying to make some music with it. 2) to get a synth and play with it without a computer (to learn its features, it's capabilities)
3) to get recording+monitoring stuff - monitors and audio card, and to combine both computer and equipment.
software suggestions: logic audio/nuendo/reason and many plugins.
synths: better get a good keyboard midi controller (without sounds) and buy rackmount synths - they're both cheaper and take less space.
monitors ... hmm get active/proactive studio monitors.
cards: midiman delta is good from money/performance point of view.
there's so many things to tell, but try all the above so far.

Actually I have the Korg Ms2000, You can do some crazy stuff with it. The price of the MS2000 went down, When I bought it, it was almost $1000. Now you can get it for $600, or you can get the rack for $450.
But invest in a computer first, other wise you will get stuck with a synth. |
